Monthly Favourites | August...

August is perhaps my favourite month of the year (and not because it is my birthday month). I think it's because I am much more of an Autumn'/Winter person and so this is when some Autumn/Winter pieces start to make an appearance in the shops.

Life | This Week #047...

001) This week was a cheeky little short week at work which is exactly what I like. However, the 5 am start on Friday was not the brightest idea I ever had.

Beauty | Leighton Denny Miracle Mist...

Painting my nails always seems like such a chore which is why I go through phases of doing it. I always end up smudging them within about 5 seconds as I get pretty impatient waiting for them to dry. Then I get annoyed with myself for being impatient and having smudged nails.

However, I have now discovered a product that has since made painting my nails less of a chore and much more of an enjoyment

Enter Leighton Denny Miracle Mist.

This product is amazing. Simply spray onto your nails and they will be dry in about 30-40 seconds. I have been using this between coats simply so I can finish painting my nails quicker. It is definitely not the cheapest one out there (retails for £12.00) but I would say that it is worth it if you paint your nails a lot.

Life | Skene House...

Working full-time means that my blog time is limited to evenings and weekends. And let's face it...finding the concentration at home can be difficult with distractions such as Netflix around.
So when Skene House offered the chance to work from one of their lounge spaces, I jumped at the chance and headed along on a Friday with Georgie from The Lipstick Daily.

Beauty | Make-up Mix #003...

Too much make-up and not enough places to put it is my problem! And therefore this is why I like to mix it up from time to time:

Life | This Week #046...

001) This week I stupidly did Body Attack 2 days in a row. Rookie mistake. My knees have not functioning properly for the rest of the week. A combination of Burpees, Burpee tucks and Tuck jumps are to blame.

Trend Report | #007: The ankle boot edition...

With August almost finished, it seems that the shops are slowly turning away from summer fashion and heading into my favourite season - Autumn.

Autumn brings unpredictable weather and if you live where I currently live (Aberdeen), 4 seasons in one day is not uncommon. So naturally, during this season, I tend to live in ankle boots.

Browsing the High Street, there are many options available: metallics, florals, velvet, suede. You name it, it is there. I tend to play it safe with practical options (Velvet boots in  the rain would not go down well here!), so here are some of my current favourites from the High Street:

Tan Leather Look Buckle Ankle Boots - £19.99
Tan Chunky Block Heel Ankle Boots - £27.99

Eats | Parmesan & Spinach Crackers...

Over the years, I have become much more partial to baked goods of the savoury kind. Don't get me wrong, I still love the sweet stuff but savoury goods definitely tend to float my boat more.

Crackers are something that I have made on several occasions with success so I thought that it was time to get a little more experimental. These Parmesan and Spinach crackers are easy to make and are the perfect accompaniment to your favourite choice of dip.

Brand Love: Illamasqua...

Illamasqua are one of those brands who know how to make a statement in the beauty world and are definitely not afraid to push the boundaries. It is probably one of the many reasons that I love them. In addition, as well as producing stand-out products, they also support the Sophie Lancaster Foundation through the sale of some of their products.

Currently Coveting #007: The Charlotte Tilbury edition...

Oh dear, I can't help myself but fall in love with anything that is remotely gold or rose gold. I definitely have a habit that needs to be addressed. Anyway, this time I have fallen in love with everything Charlotte Tilbury (a wee bit late to the bandwagon I know!) and the worst thing that is that I have found out that they deliver by Royal Mail....uh-oh!

Here are the pieces that I am loving (and my bank balance will be hating):

Life | This Week #045...

001) This week has been a tough one as I was working my first 5-day working week in a little while. It pretty much was to expected to be tough seeing as I've had a number of recent long weekends.

002) On Wednesday, I met my friend for lunch and we went to a gorgeous little place in Aberdeen called Cafe Parx. Small it may be, but the food was amazing. I had a gammon, pea & leek quiche which was served with a Quinoa based watermelon salad. SO good and pretty reasonable too.

003) This week the Olympics have been playing havoc with my sleeping pattern as it's on quite late and I keep thinking 'just a little bit more...'. Some of the events have been gripping - I really could not contain myself during the cycling to the point that my laptop almost ended up on the floor. Oops!

004) Instagram stories...What do you think? I am a snapchat user (find me over at ameyjaney) and I actually only discovered Instagram stories this morning. It is essentially the same thing but seeing as I follow more people on instagram than snapchat, I have more to watch. I'm undecided right now.

005) Remember the Chaophraya launch I briefly mentioned last week? Well, this week myself, Georgie from The Lipstick Daily and a couple of our friends were featured in the Evening Express as well as the Press and Journal. In one photo I look a little drunk and the other is fine - you can clearly tell which one was post-cocktail, haha.

006) I've spent a little time this week planning next month's content and I'm a little excited to be honest. I'm going to leave you hanging until September though...

007) Illamasqua nail varnish - epic!

Eats | Lime Refresher...

State the obvious but drinking plain water is pretty boring. I much prefer drinking flavoured or infused water. Browsing Pinterest (no surprise there), I came across a Lime Refresher recipe and thought it was perfect for all those hot summer days.

Beauty: L'Oreal Elvive Re-balancing Shampoo...

If there is one thing that I regret doing when I was younger then it is washing my hair every single day. Thankfully over the years, I have managed to get it down to every 2nd day. However, I sometimes wish that I could leave it even longer simply because I hate washing my hair (and I'm usually running late!)

While browsing Boots looking for shampoo, I came across the Re-balancing range by L'Oreal Elvive and having been impressed with Elvive before, I was intrigued to try it.

So what does the product claim to do?

According to the back of the product, it claims to not only purify the scalp for 72 hours but hydrate dry hair and revitalise the hair with softness, shine & bounce.

So how did it do?

Overall, I am really impressed with this product. It has felt nourishing from the first use and even by day 3, my hair does not feel as greasy as it used to feel. Therefore, it gets a massive thumbs up from me!

Have you tried anything from this range?

Beauty | Copper nails...

My Copper obsession is beginning to get just a little out of hand. So it will come as no surprise that I picked up Barry M's Copper Mine as soon as I spotted it.

Copper Mine forms part of the 4 shade Molten Metals Summer 2016 range from Barry M. Available from both Boots & Superdrug, each shade retails at a purse-friendly £3.99.

I'm going to dive straight in and say that this nail varnish is absolute perfection. The coverage is amazing even with only one coat applied. In addition, the colour is astonishing with just the right amount of shimmer to give the perfect copper colour.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed.

Life | This Week #044...

001) Well first things first, you will notice that I have got rid of the purple design. I still liked it but I felt that after 4 years of having the same design, it was time for a little bit of a change. I still have some things to add in the coming days and a little bit of tweaking but it shouldn't be too long before it is complete.

Life | What's on my bedside table...

I'm not sure about you, but I certainly have a certain curiosity when it comes to seeing what people keep on their bedside tables. As I have recently removed everything that shouldn't be there, I've decided to show you what is on mine.

First things first, my bedside table is a vintage find which I stripped back and painted. You can see a full post on how I did it here.

Generally, my bedside table doesn't really change. I'm not one of those people (like my Mother) who goes to bed early to read a book or something. I'm one of those people that switches off the TV and goes straight through to my bedroom to sleep. Not ideal I know.

Therefore, the contents are pretty simple. Beside my bed, I have my Copper Lamp which actually was supposed to be on the other side but it didn't fit due to my corner shelves. I also always have a coaster because I have a thing about things being on coasters. Next up I have my London Clock Company Retro Alarm clock in mint green as my iPhone kept switching itself off in the middle of the night. In addition,I always have a book or magazine on the side for when the mood strikes. Right now I have Stuart MacBride The 45% Hangover as well as the latest issue of Blogosphere Magazine. Finally, I have a heart-shaped wire basket which I picked up from Next about 2-3 years ago. In there, I keep some standard beauty essentials: Soap & Glory Hand Food (Sugar Crush edition), This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, Wild Argan Oil Lip Balm , This Works Sleep Balm, Ear Plugs (I live in a flat), Eye Mask, a random room spray and an empty Karl Lagerfield Diet Coke Bottle.

This is mine what do you keep on yours?

Shopping: New in....

It's a bit of rare thing when I actually go shopping - I just don't have time! However, here are some recent bits that I have picked up:

Kate Spade New York Medium Agenda:

I am a massive fan of Kate Spade so when I saw this agenda appearing on their website, I just had to pick it up. Not cheap at £25 for an agenda but I would say that it is worth it for the cuteness factor alone.

As you know I have a huge thing for Copper items, so when I saw this colour, I thought why not extend my obsession to my nails?

With Concealer palettes being all the hype right now, it was only time before curiosity got the better of me. So when I saw this Collection palette for only £5.99, I just had to pick it up.

My iPhone has a mind of it's own and will turn itself off randomly with a full battery. Luckily the few times it has done it, I haven't needed to be at work. However, since I've had enough of silly iPhone games, I decided to pick up this cute alarm clock.

Primark Rose Gold bracelet pack:

Delicate jewellery and Rose Gold together? Yes please!

Copper Desk Lamp

Even more Copper....I know I have a serious problem. This buy was a little bit of a whim from Homebase as I saw it and thought it would be perfect for my bedside table.

Events | HJC Styling launch...

Do you ever look at your wardrobe and wish that you had a personal stylist? I do all the time.

Fortunately, HJC Styling is a brand new service based in Aberdeen which can do just that! And so a few weeks ago, I donned my most stylish work-appropriate outfit (I was coming straight from work...) and attended the launch of this fabulous new business at no other than Malmaison Aberdeen.

So what is it all about?

HJC Styling is the genius idea of stylist Hayley Charles. Having worked as a stylist for a number of years, Hayley found that she was incredibly restricted in what she could offer her clients both in style and size. She therefore saw a gap in the market for a stylist who was not restricted to one brand nor a certain range of sizes but who could freely advise clients across every brand available on the High Street. This led her to launching HJC Styling.

HJC Styling offers a complete range of services which are guaranteed to give you the style overhaul that you desire. From an online only consultation to a full wardrobe make-over, there is a service available for what you want. Personally, I like the sound of the Shop & Style consultation which involves going shopping and being able to have on-hand advice from a stylist about colours, cuts and much more before you buy anything. Sounds pretty good to me!

At the event as well as explaining to us about the services that she offers, Hayley also had a mini fashion show showcasing some of her work. Here, she explained the current fashion trends as well as how she has styled them. My particular favourite was the first outfit with the mustard cropped trousers - simple, elegant but with a clash of pattern.

For more information about HJC Styling, you can visit the website

Eats: Proper Pops...

Being a health-conscious/fitness person, I am always on the look-out for healthier versions of my favourite type of snacks and in particular those of the crisp kind.

Enter Proper Pops.

Proper Pops is an Irish brand who have been on my radar for a little while. They produce protein-rich 'Proper Pops' which contain more Protein and Fibre than some of your favourite vegetables. For example, the 'Sizzling Sweet Paprika' flavour has 4 x more Protein than Broad Beans and 7 x more Fibre than Kale. Amazing, right?

In addition to being protein-rich, they also come in 3 different flavours: Sizzling Sweet Paprika; Lime, Lemongrass & Garlic and Zesty Lemon & Fiery Chilli. I was kindly provided with all 3 flavours to try as well as a couple of 'guess the flavour' pots.

My favourite flavour was definitely the 'Sizzling Sweet Paprika' flavour closely followed by the Lime, Lemongrass & Garlic flavour. However, I thought that the Zesty Lemon & Fiery Chilli was a just a little too hot for me. And as for the mystery pots, I thought they were both Lime, Lemongrass & Garlic...

Proper Pops are available from Amazon as well as Sainsburys
