Fashion: Favourite AW16 shows...

When Fashion Week rolls around on a bi-annual basis, I cannot help myself but have a look through all of my favourite designers for the new season. Yes, the chances of me actually buying anything designer is completely unheard of but I can't deny that the clothes are beautiful (and who doesn't love beautiful things?).

This year London Fashion Week AW16, saw the return of one of my favourite designers to London as well as Jonny Coca present his first collection for Mulberry after the departure of Emma Hill. The catwalks themselves were flooded with palettes of nudes and contrasting darks, prints and lots of tailoring. It's a season, I must say, I am most looking forward to experimenting with.

Here are my top 4 shows from LFW AW16:

Life: This Week #021...

 Goldfish enjoying a feed

001) On Monday I had a day off work and I was planning on spending the day perusing London Fashion Week shows and blogging but instead I became ridiculously busy with other stuff which did include a sports massage.

002) Speaking of the sports massage, it turns out that I have a muscle injury which is down to bad technique. My fault entirely. Needless to say, I'm going to be sticking to light weights for a while.

003) This weekend I have done nothing but eat! Yesterday I ended up having a burger for breakfast (Brunch finished at 11.30am...) then some Tepanyaki in the evening as it was my friend's birthday. Needless to say, my food today has been on the healthy side (MyFitnessPal is happy to say the least...).

004) In May, I am planning a trip down to Edinburgh with a friend (which is quite exciting!) so I'm looking out for any recommendations for good places to eat which are pretty central.

Trend Report #002: The Bomber Jacket...

Badged MA1 Bomber Jacket £59.00
Black Geometric Print Bomber Jacket £45.00

With celebrities such as Ellie Goulding wearing them and the high street stocking a huge array of styles, it is safe to say that Bomber Jackets are a huge trend for SS16.

Bomber jackets are a versatile wardrobe piece. They can be worn in almost any season: layer up with a cosy jumper for those colder days or for those warmer days simply wear a light top or shirt underneath. Additionally, they can add a touch of sport luxe to any outfit.

Life: This Week #020...

A sunrise I captured earlier this week - absolutely stunning colours. No filter.

001) My nutrition has never been my strong point so this week I have been using MyFitnessPal to track what I have been eating and drinking. Honestly, it has really opened my eyes to what is actually in food. From 1 of my favourite brand of bagels having 230 kcal to a cup of tea which has 50 kcal.

002) On the subject of food, today I attended a blogger event at Cue Barbecue in Aberdeen. The food was SO tasty! I will be reviewing this in full pretty soon.

003) This weekend I seem to have found time to catch up on tv. So much so that I have finally started watching Better Call Saul (the 1st season). I'm loving it so far! I'm also really enjoying Happy Valley too.

004) This time of year is always the time that I fancy a few new pieces for my wardrobe. I love looking at clothes but I'm not a major clothes shopper (and then I wonder why I have nothing to wear!) and I actually can't fit anything else in my wardrobe right now. So generally I tend to have a constant wishlist of some sort  in my head. Right now I am loving both New Look and Warehouse.

Reads: Tech Bitch...

I love a novel that allows me to immerse myself in a different world. My latest read,'Tech Bitch' by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza, is no exception. Set in New York and centred around a magazine called Glossy, 'Tech Bitch' follows the story of Imogen, editor-in-chief, as she returns to work following a sabbatical.

I absolutely loved reading this book and once I started I couldn't put it down. Without giving too much away (as I'm sure you would like to read it too), there were moments where I just wanted to slap one of the main characters and others where I was cheering on the underdog. If you love light-hearted, girly novels then you will love this. Definitely worth a read.

(FYI it is the price of a latte from Starbucks on Amazon right now)

Interiors: Hallway Inspirations...

Living in a flat means that space is limited particularly in the hallway department. Since decorating my hallway at the end of last year, I have been scanning Pinterest for display ideas for all my artwork.

For one of my walls,I love the concept of a gallery wall with little shelves dotted around for odds and ends. The wall that needs changing is adjacent to the front door so I need something that is going to create a bit of impact when you open the door.I also want to be able to incorporate some of my vintage finds as part of the display which is why one of the options that I am thinking of is a shelf above the radiator.

My other wall that needs something done to it is right behind the door. At the moment there is only hooks for hanging jackets but I think that something like the 1st picture may work a treat. I could have storage boxes above for storing seasonal items such as hats and gloves or quirky pieces. The possibilities for the shelf above are endless!

Life: This week #019...

001) First things first, Happy Valentines Day to you all!

002) This week has passed in a bit of a blur: work has been very busy and then I've pretty much been at the gym in the evening working on building a better version of myself.

003) With my broadband working properly now, I have been catching up with TV shows that I have missed. This week I have been watching War and Peace which has been amazing so far. I have also finished watching Making a Murderer. It  has also dawned on me that I have missed a couple episodes of Scream Queens...

004) Last night I popped along to Spectre Aberdeen which is essentially a light festival. It was really good although there was a section I didn't go into as I have epilepsy and it wasn't worth potentially triggering a seizure. The best attraction was definitely the circles that changed colour when you jumped on them - not that I was pretending I was 5 again...

Eats: Healthy Chicken Satay recipe...

Chicken Satay is one of my favourite dishes and generally one that I don't have too often. So one day, instead of buying a pre-prepared one, I decided that I would have a go making one from scratch by adapting a recipe I found online.

You will need:

400g Chicken
1/2 Onion
1/4 tsp Chilli Powder
1 1/2 tbsp Crunchy Peanut Butter
1 tsp Soy Sauce
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp Brown Sugar
1/2 cup light Evaporated Milk
1/4 cup Chicken Stock
75g Brown Rice (per person)

001) Put the rice onto boil (brown rice takes much longer than you think!)
002) Cook the chicken (I lightly fried mine) and make sure that it is cooked all the way through.
003)  To make the sauce, cook the onion for a few minutes until soft. Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for around 10-15 mins or until the sauce has thickened.
004) Serve and enjoy!

Will you be giving this a go?

Brand love: Origins...

Origins have been one of my favourite skincare brands a long while. They pride themselves on creating skincare that is influenced by the natural world and explained by science. In addition, they also have a scheme to plant trees across the globe to aid reforestation projects which I think is a brilliant idea.

Favourite Product:

My favourite products have to be their face masks. However, I also adore their GinZing range, in particular their GinZing Moisturiser (FYI it smells incredible)

Worst Product:

There is nothing that I've tried that I have not liked.

New Product:

My newest product is the Out of Trouble Face Mask. However, I have just spotted a lot of new products on their website that I really want to try.

Have you tried Origins before?

Life: This week #018....

001) What a difference a week makes! This week the problems that I had last week seem to have pretty much sorted themselves out. To say I'm happy does not even cover it.

002) In relation to the above, my broadband has finally been fixed. So naturally I am catching up on allll the things that I have missed.

003) On Friday I headed home for the start of the Rugby 6 nations. Unfortunately, Scotland lost but all in all it was a pretty good game. It was also good to catch-up with my friend before the game and of course see little Alfie.

004) Fitness-wise,I am still playing with a 10kg plate for weighted exercises (eg Russian Twists) in my classes. Weirdly, I find lighter plates too light when I switch back for whatever reason.

Beauty: Best of the bold lips...

In regards to make-up, I am not always the most experimental and would normally shy away from anything 'too out there'. However, towards the end of 2015, I started experimenting with bold lip colour and you know what...I love it! So here are some of my current favourites:

MAC Russian Red:

I have raved on and on about this lipstick in a number of  recent posts. It is the perfect matte red which looks incredible for any occasion.

Clinique All Heart:

This lipstick is one that I seem to have somehow accumulated, however accumulation besides, it is a beautiful pink/red which has really good staying power.

Sara Hill Dozen Roses:

This lipstick is actually a dark pink but it has the most wonderful colour pay-off. It comes from make-up artist,Sara Hill's make-up line which launched early last year. I absolutely adore  both this shade and Red Carpet which I also own.

Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick:

Like MAC's Russian Red, this is another lip product that I have been unable to put down recently. It is a gloss, not a lipstick but it is easily buildable so you can choose how bright you would like to go.

Monthly favourites: January...

January saw the end of the festive celebrations, the dreaded return to work after almost a month off and also the surge in interest in my gym (cue busy classes!). January also saw new products being trialled and Christmas presents being used - some which have made it into my favourites.

Starbucks Lemon & Poppyseed muffin:

I'm not usually someone who picks muffins out as a treat. However, one day I fancied something different for a treat and picked out this muffin. Oh my goodness, it is good! Lemon icing, soft cake insides and a lemon liquid centre. Not healthy but unbelievably good.

Turkey Sausages:

Another food item (I swear they are not all food favourites this month) that I have been loving  are Turkey sausages that I found in Sainsburys. Slightly more expensive than usual sausages, but they taste good, leave less fat than usual, are high protein and more healthier than normal. Perfect for lunches!

12 Month Calender:

You may have noticed that my blog posts have been much more regular this month and it is mainly down to this beauty that I picked up in TK Maxx. Each double page is an individual month so I have been plotting content and I can easily see what is coming up.

Checked blanket:

This blanket was a Christmas present from my parents and it is absolutely beautiful. Soft, cosy and warm and great for snuggling up on the sofa with.

MAC Russian Red:

Russian Red is a gorgeous red matte from MAC. I was always slightly scared by bright colours but
this shade I absolutely adore as it is completely wearable. This is actually the colour that I wore in my Christmas Day Make-up 2015 post.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick:

I'm generally not someone who likes glosses but this is one I love and have been wearing a lot throughout January. It is the perfect for when you want a subtle red.

These bobbles were actually sourced from one of my Glossyboxes. The idea behind them is that they don't snag your hair and that they are invisible. I normally use these around the house as they're not invisible enough in my hair for outside the house.
