Life: This Week #017...

001) This weekend has been stressful with all the joys of being a homeowner. Buying a house is simply not buying a house. There is so much other 'adulting' that comes with it.

002) Towards the end of the week, I picked up the most horrific cold which let's face it was probably lingering for a while before it exploded. It was so bad that I even cancelled the gym on Saturday which let's face it never happens.I  was particularly gutted later on  as I found out that it was one of my favourite instructors doing the double.

003)This week, I found out that there is a Starbucks about a 5 min walk from my house - uh-oh! I'm off on Friday so I'm tempted to head down and work on my blog for a while before the gym...

004) On Friday, I headed back to Jamie's Italian for a friend's special birthday (hello!). Once again, I had the yummy nachos that I talked about in my Jamie's Italian post and opted for the burger this time (which was a challenge to finish).

Trend Report #001: The striped tee...

Stripes are one of those trends which never really go away - they are suitable for any season and are once again prominent in Spring/Summer 16 and so I feel that they are an essential in every wardrobe. Personally, I love a breton top and I have a few in my wardrobe in various colours and styles.

Despite what many think, stripes are actually easy enough to wear and everyone will be able to pull them off. Team with a pair of denims and a casual cardigan for a casual look or for a more, sophisticated work look, wear with a pencil skirt and heels.

How do you wear your stripes?

Eats: Healthy Snacks...

Having a sweet tooth means that I am particularly drawn to sweet things. Unfortunately, these are never, nice, healthy things so I can't snack on them as much as I like to. In order, for me to clean up my act a little, I have started to research slightly healthier snack options which, my current favourites, I am sharing below:

Peanut Butter and Banana on toast

Apple and a Babybel

Apple and Peanut Butter

Whitworths Shots

Nakd Bars

Have you tried any of these before?

Life: This week #016...

001) Owning a house is expensive! My flat has two major issues that need sorting at the same time - the drains and the roof (both equally important). Cue my bank account sobbing as it drains...

002) Living in Scotland means that come January (after we have recovered from Hogmanay), we celebrate Burns Night. Every year, one of my friends always puts on a really good Burns dinner: haggis, neeps, mealy pudding and tatties. Last night we ate, drank and played Cards against humanity. Yummy!

003) This week fitness-wise, I have managed to increase my squat weight to 25kg. Weirdly enough, I wasn't feeling too great yesterday at Body Pump so kept all my weights low and from what I used to think was heavy (20kg) actually felt far too light for squats.

004) This week, I developed an unhealthy obsession with Lemon & Poppyseed muffins from Starbucks. Luckily I am moving to an office  this week where Starbucks are not next-door so it shouldn't be too much of  a problem.....

Eats: Jamie's Italian...

One of best things about living in a city is the vast choice of restaurants and other eateries that you have to choose from. So one evening last week, I visited Jamie's Italian in the city centre for an evening of good food and a catch-up with some of my closest friends.

The table was booked for 5pm but as myself and a friend arrived early, we decided to try out their cocktail menu. I picked a Blackberry Mule and my friend went for a Caipirinha. Both which were pretty good.

Once the rest of the party had arrived, we were shown to our table to mull over the menu and choose our meal.

Overall, the food was pretty tasty and there is something on the menu for everyone. My favourite dish that I had was definitely my starter - the Italian Nachos: little fried ravioli parcels filled with cheese and a spicy salsa.Yummy! In addition, the service we had was really good from the moment we stepped in until the moment we stepped out.

Brand Love: Soap & Glory Cosmetics...

Kick-Ass Concealer
One Heck of a blot
Love at first blush

Ever since I saw Soap & Glory's quirky packaging, I knew that it was going to be a brand that I would love. And love I did.

What I love about all of Soap & Glory's ranges (minus the quirky packaging) is the high quality of every single product for a reasonable price. High quality products with a low retail price will always speak volumes to me. This is probably why I have developed a huge obsession with their cosmetic range which I will talk about below.

Arch de Triumph

Favourite Product:

My favourite product, I actually forgot to photograph (oops!). However, it is 'Hocus Focus' which is an illuminator. I find that it works great mixed into a base layer to add a subtle shimmer to your make-up.

Glamourpush (limited edition set)

Worst Product:

Kick-Ass Concealer:

This is a bit of an odd one as I adore the product (and have repurchased it several times), however I do not love the packaging. It doesn't matter how careful I am with it, it always breaks and therefore a nightmare for travelling with. Simple fact - it is flimsy. Therefore, Soap & Glory, please do something with the packaging!

Smoulder Kohl
Thick & Fast mascara
Daily Double eyeshadow pencil

Tricks of the Shade (limited edition palette)

Lid Stuff
Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick
Lip Stick

New Product:

Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick

I've never been someone that is really into glosses at all. It's the whole wind/hair stuck in gloss situation that puts me off. However, I have been LOVING this since I got it - the colour is just so wearable!

Have you tried Soap and Glory? What products do you love?

Eats: Healthy lunch ideas...

Generally I find it much easier to eat healthily during the week when I am working. However, working 5 days a week can mean it becomes easy to rely on the same lunches day in day out and it eventually gets to a point where you don't look forward to lunches.

To give you a little inspiration for your lunches, here are a few options that I have been loving:

Chicken Salad:

Chicken-based salads are one of my favourite things to make for lunch as I can flavour the chicken with whatever spices I feel like. I also love it as chicken is filling as a protein source which makes for a less hangry Amey later. This salad had chicken flavoured with a Jamie Oliver mix, cucumber (has always been a favourite), pepper, cherry toms and a mixed bed of leaves. I also had a tiny bit of salad cream on it which was kept separate until the last minute.

Homemade Burrito Bowl:

I am a huge fan of Mexican food and in an attempt to spice up my lunches, I came across these Burrito bowls. They are really easy to make and once you have cooked the rice, the rest takes no time at all. They are also extremely filling too. In this Burrito Bowl, I had rice, sweetcorn, black beans, avocado, plum toms and romaine lettuce topped with a homemade Chipotle sauce.

Chicken and Avocado Caesar Salad:

This one is another Chicken salad but with a twist. Instead of mixed leaves, I have used Kale and romaine lettuce in equal parts as the base . There is also avocado, chicken and tomatoes with some crunchy croutons.

Bento boxes:

Oh my! I love having these for lunch simply because it's a little bit of whatever I fancy (healthy options of course) and the possibilities are endless. Usually, I have some form of crackers, a portion of protein (chicken or hard-boiled eggs), some raw veg (sugarsnaps if they are available) and a portion of fruit. I then also either have water or a herbal tea with it.

Life: This Week #015...

Meet Gavin, the cute resident Dachshund at The Long Dog Cafe in Aberdeen

001) Let's state the obvious: it's been bleddy freezing this week!I'm surprised I haven't grown icicles although I am sporting a  rudolph nose. Currently there is no snow (good!) but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some at some point.

002) This weekend has been allll about the food. Yesterday, I was photographing food then today I was at The Long Dog Cafe as well as Jamie's Italian. Needless to say, this foodie is foodied out!

003) After the festive period, I was beginning to feel slightly fluffy around the edges so this week I made a conscious effort to go back to my pre-festive healthy eating habits. I have been feeling much better for doing this and seem to have been turning down junk food at points for healthy options...

004) This week saw the new Les Mills releases being rolled out in my gym. This time they are all pretty good but Body Combat 66 is amazing. I love every single track this time (although the  ridiculous amount of spider planks in the core track does not agree with me),

005) Banana and Peanut Butter on toast...where on earth have I been?

Beauty: Sara Hill make-up...

Out of all the beauty products available on the market, Lipsticks are by far my favourite product to purchase. Last year, Sara Hill, a make-up artist based in Glasgow released her own line of make-up and as someone who enjoys trying new ranges, I was keen to place an order.

Both of the lipsticks that I ordered (Dozen RosesRed Carpet) are a creamy matte formula. Red Carpet is described as a 'Rich deep pinky red' while Dozen Roses is described as a 'Deep Rose'. Dozen Roses has generally been one of my go-to lipsticks for during the day and it has spent a large amount of time living in my handbag (hence the slightly tatty appearance).

The application and longevity of these lipsticks is fantastic. The colour is easily buildable meaning that you can choose how bright you want to go. I usually find that I like to build a few layers for a brighter look. I have also found that the lipsticks rarely need topping up during the day/evening either.

Life: This Week #014...

001) This week was the dreaded back to work week after the festive period...and just when I was getting into a comfy, relaxing routine as well. To be honest, it wasn't actually all bad going back and I was glad that it was only a 4 day week.

002) Yesterday, I had a lovely afternoon tea with my friends  at Milton Brasserie just outside Aberdeen. Gorgeous food and fabulous company....what could be better?

003) This week also saw the return of my usual gym routine - lots of classes and lots of lifting with the added bonus of new goals smashed. Perfect if you ask me.

004) During the festive period, I over-indulged in one too many treats and by the time I returned, my body was craving all the healthy things. So this week, I have been eating fairly healthily and feel 100% better for it. It's amazing what a change in diet does for your mood.

Beauty: 2015 Christmas Day make-up...

Bonus picture of my Dad on Christmas Day

One of the many things that I love about Christmas Day, is being able to dress up in sparkly clothing and have a good play around with my make-up.

This Christmas, I decided it was finally time to debut my MAC Russian Red lipstick which I had bought a while back while shopping for the 'perfect red'. As this was what I wanted the focus of my make-up to be on, I kept everything else pretty simple.

Here is what I used:

Under the microscope: Urban Decay Naked Foundation...

Urban Decay Naked Foundation 02 ; Teacups and Buttondrops

Urban Decay is one of those brands which can not stop producing stand-out beauty products. I am a massive fan of their Naked range and the fact that the range has increased over the years seem to suggest that every one else loves it just as much.

At the time that I bought the On-the-run palette, I was offered to make an appointment for a make-up consultation. One of the products that was used, amongst others, was their Naked Foundation.

Urban Decay Naked Foundation 02 ; Teacups and Buttondrops

Foundation is something that I have never really bought into high-end wise so this was pretty much my first foray. Normally with foundation, I can never get the colour to match exactly but with the huge range of shades available from Urban Decay, I was matched to shade 02. This shade is absolutely perfect for me to the point that the make-up artist had to look carefully to see where she applied it for testing purposes.

Overall, I really like this product as I find that not only is the colour perfect for me but it is also long-lasting. Pretty essential when you're a gym-goer like myself.

Fitness: Fitness review 2015 & Fitness Goals 2016...

It will come as no surprise that fitness is a major part of my life and as 2015 saw me smash goals left, right and centre, I thought I would share some 2015 highlights as well as some new 2016 goals.

2015 review:

In 2015, I noticed a marked interest in the types of classes that I enjoy doing. Gone is my interest in copious amounts of cardio-based work (I still keep some in for balance) and in comes more core-based/strength-building classes. In addition, I also attempted a number of new classes: Hydro-spinning; Ultimate Core (which involved some TRX); Jump Rope (Circuit based class); Body Jam and Metafit.

Progress is something  that I always strive for in my classes and I am constantly setting myself little goals to smash. Over the past year, I have seen progress in a number of areas: from increases in the weights that I use (particularly in Body Pump) to taking the higher options available.

Fitness Story:

In 2015, I also took the plunge and finally posted my Fitness Story.

As part of setting goals, I also like to take part in any challenges that become available. In 2015, I took part in Color me rad. It was good, but definitely nowhere near enough paint to appeal to my childish, mucky side.

At some point in time, you will encounter some sort of injuries from either doing too much or not having the correct form. This year, I picked up a number of injuries (usually my shoulder/right arm) so I have now learnt to listen to my body, take rest days and also to book a good sports massage from time-to-time (SMC massage therapy in Aberdeen are amazing!)

2016 Goals:

001) Continue to increase weights during Body Pump, specifically:
         - Squat track weight increase to 30kg (currently 22.5kg)
         - Shoulder track weight increase to 10kg (currently varies between 5kg & 7.5kg)
         - Chest track weight increase to 12.5kg (currently varies between 5kg, 7.5kg and 10kg)
002) Push-ups on toes (currently on knees)
003) Tricep push-ups (currently using a lower option)
004) Move from downward dog to plank without collapsing (no tricep strength)
005) Continue to take higher options in classes
006) Develop a stretching routine for home to avoid too many more injuries
007) Try more new classes
008) Sign up for 1 or 2 challenges - I'm currently thinking about the Beast race
009) Sort out my nutrition. My nutrition is absolutely rubbish  and I know that having the right nutrition goes hand in hand with exercising. I usually find that I am fine at work and then after that it is a disaster with dinner usually being porridge on a good day (unless it's a weekend or I am at home where my Dad is an amazing cook).

Life: This week #013...

001) First things first, Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a wonderful time over the festive
period with your loved ones. I know I certainly did!

002) You may have noticed that things have been rather quiet around these parts for a while (actually 2015 has been my lowest posting year so far...).In 2016, my blog is going to become a major focus for me. I absolutely love blogging but between working full-time in an office, the amount of time I spend at the gym and having a social life, blogging has sadly fallen by the wayside. However, in 2016, I have major plans for the blog including plans for a new layout, more regular content and various other odds and ends.

003) In connection with the above, I am also wanting to experience more things. Scotland is such a beautiful country and even just stepping over the city boundary into Aberdeenshire, you are greeted with a whole array of beautiful things to experience. In addition, Aberdeen has also had a massive improvement along the lines of lots of independent, quirky coffee shops and restaurants which I want to try as well (particularly Byron Burger - only one in Scotland so far). There is also more to come as well.

004) In September last year, I lost my sweet little hamster, Mr Fluffles. I have been thinking about getting another fluffy of some form, but the main thing that is really stopping me deciding is who will look after them when I am on holiday (when I do actually go away). It's fine getting an animal, but then there are important things like that to consider. A decision that I would never rush into.

005) With the festive period pretty much over, I am strangely looking forward to getting back to my usual eating habits as opposed to all the sweet treats that I have been consuming. Sweet treats are ok, but there comes a point that my body craves allll the healthy things.

On an unrelated note, this post is going out on what would have been my Grandad's 104th Birthday x
