Ultimate Favourites 2016...

2016 is almost, but not quite finished so I thought I would share my ultimate favourites of 2016.

Monthly Favourites | December...

I am now onto the part of December where rolling everywhere seems to be the only option. The festive period was far too good for me.

Anyway here is what I was loving in December

Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows:

Cold weather and Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows. Need I say more?

New Balance Water Bottle:

I definitely did not need another water bottle but this one from New Balance is beautiful. It actually holds more than any of my other ones which means it is great as I don't need to constantly refill it.

This month I have been obsessed with Marshmallows. I've been loving them in Hot Chocolate as mentioned above but also simply just eating them.

Raspberry Proats:

I've had proats on numerous occasions but never until recently had I thought to add some Raspberry flavour in the form of MyProtein flav drops.Delicious!

Revlon Valentine:

This nail varnish was in a recent Glossybox and I have been in love with it ever since I received it. It is such a lovely colour and in fact I did a recent post on it here.

Grey Zara Bag:

This bag is something I have had for a couple of years and it wasn't until I was looking for a smaller bag for an event that I pulled it out. I forgot how much I love it.

Marie Kando Book:

I have had this book for around a year and it is only now that I am actually getting around to using it. Even though I have currently only read half of it, I am already changing the way I have been thinking about stuff/items I have in my flat.

Eco washing up liquid:

This is a bit of an odd one but I ran out of washing up liquid and so purchased this on a whim. And you know what? My dishes have never been so sparkly. Honest!

Scottish Rugby Team Hoody:

I am a huge rugby fan and I love nothing better then heading down to Murrayfield to cheer on the Scottish Rugby team. Both of my parents are massive fans too so it is always a complete family affair when we go. I fell in love with this hoody in the shop when I was at one of the games and added it to my Christmas list. My parents know I love hoodies and rugby so they kindly bought me it for Christmas. I have actually not taken it off since I have received it!

Travel | York Staycity Aparthotels...

When travelling there is always the fear that somewhere you may book will not live up to your expectations and that was certainly true when I travelled to York.

Travel | York: Betty's Tearooms...

Having visited several traditional tearooms over the years, I can safely say that I have never visited one quite so eloquent as Betty's Tearoom in York.

Travel | York...

When people tell you York is beautiful they are definitely not lying. Before Christmas I spent a few days in York with my Mum exploring the city and doing a little Christmas shopping. Unfortunately we just missed the Christmas markets but it's always an excuse to come back next year, right?

Life | This Week #064...

001) First things first - Merry Christmas!! I hope you all have a fabulous festive day with all your Family and Friends. I know I will be enjoying myself (and finding Gin!)

002) This week hasn't exactly gone to plan. I had scheduled in a couple of days to work purely on the blog (mainly background stuff not posts) and I managed to squeeze only one full day of blog work in. Here's hoping to more next week.

003) On Friday I finally received my new Fridge/Freezer which took me around 2 years to order. It's much bigger than I had before with more freezer space which is great for food prep.

004) Speaking of which on Friday I randomly decided that it would be a good idea to deep clean my kitchen. It 's amazing how long it took me to do properly. Once again another reason why I didn't get more blog work done.

Christmas Traditions...

I don't know about you but I love hearing about other people's Christmas traditions so much so that I thought I would share some of mine. Ours change depending where we are in the country but for the last few years this has been a typical few Christmas days up in the North of Scotland.

Beauty | Festive Nails...

When the festive season hits, my nails are one of the first things that get a little TLC.

Christmas Gift Guide | Stocking Fillers...

Secret Santa's,particularly in the workplace, are now a common thing and you always hope that you get someone who is easy to buy for. More often that not you don't and you end up with someone who you literally didn't know existed until you drew their name out of the hat. Cue panic buying of something that says you have put a little bit of thought into it but also is within budget.

Christmas Gift Guide | For Her...

Sometimes you want to treat a female relative to something special...and sometimes an item of clothing will simply not cut it.

Monday, 19 December 2016

Christmas Gift Guide | The Bestie...

Sometimes you have just got to treat your bestie and what is a better time then at Christmas? With the High Street full of potential ideas, it can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint the perfect gift.

Christmas Gift Guide | For Him...

Why is it that males are always difficult to buy for? They either tell you they want nothing (My Dad) or if they do tell you then it is something quite obscure and you have no idea where to start.

Life | This Week #063...

001) How are we just one week away from Christmas? Madness.

002) This week saw me finish work until 2017 (holidays and careful planning if you're wondering, haha) and that means I have had a lot more free time to myself for once. Usually my life revolves around 4 things: Work, Gym, Blog & Friends/Family. However, this week I have actually had time to sit and do things like sit and read a book all afternoon. I would definitely be lying if I said it hadn't been wonderful to be able to do this. I have also done some jobs that never get done such as changing over my electricity to a new supplier and ordering a new fridge freezer.

003) In addition, this week I also went for lunch at Food Story which is a local, independent vegetarian/vegan cafe in Aberdeen. Let me tell you the food (particularly their salads) are incredible and their White Chocolate Millionaire Slice....well you're just going to have to visit. Whilst I was there I also got a little brainstorming done for Teacups & Buttondrops.

004) Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows in particular seem to have taken over my life. I really can't get enough. In addition, this week I had my 1st red cup of the season which was the Fudge Hot Chocolate. It is SO good! Note to self: have more before they disappear

Christmas Gift Guide | The interior edition...

I am self-confessed interior junkie. I would quite happily spend my money on interior items for my flat then let's say a new dress. I'm being serious (although a new dress is also sometimes nice)

Life | This Week #062...

001) This week was a little bit more exciting than usual. On Thursday I attended the Moxy hotel launch (1st of it's kind in the UK) which was one of the best events I have been to but also one of the most random. Stay tuned for more on this on the blog.

002) Christmas has  definitely been on my mind this week - I've wrapped up even more presents and I have a list of the last few things I need to do. 2 Weeks today...

003) This weekend I had my annual friend-mas: Food, Alcohol and Good Company topped off with a lovely walk to Slains Castle earlier today. Lovely.

004) Sound the alarm - I only have 2 days left of work until I am off for Christmas. I am pretty excited to be a lady of leisure for a bit. So far my plans are including multiple lunch dates, gym visits, a birthday and then plenty of blog time. I may (or may not) declutter the flat a little too...

005) Finally this week I have discovered that I am actually much more productive blog-wise when I am watching a David Attenborough documentary. Weirdly enough this worked well throughout uni too....

Eats | Brownie Energy Balls...

Brownies are one of my favourite sweet treats however they are by far not the healthiest.

These easy brownie-inspired energy balls are simple and quick to make. Perfect for that mid-afternoon slump.

Trend Report #009 | The Sparkly Dress...

Whenever the Festive period rolls around, it goes without saying that anything sparkly is never far away. Needless to say, as it's now December and all that, the High Street is currently an array of sparkly goodness.

Personally, I love the sparkly dress which is perfect for an office party, a night out with the girls or even Christmas Day itself. The High Street has some great options of sparkly dresses right now and below are my favourites:

Black Sequin Over-sized T-shirt Dress - £26.00
Pink Sequin Midi Slip Dress - £45.00

Monthly Favourites | November...

November saw a couple of rugby games, a trip to York, a trip back home and the start of a new healthier lifestyle. It also saw the Christmas panic set in, various flat issues and a well-deserved Sunday spent doing nothing.

Here is what I have been loving:

Butternut Squash:
This vegetable has pretty much been a weekly staple this month. I love the sweetness of it. Combined with some roasted sweet potato, it makes a tasty addition to any meal.

Continuing with the food theme, this month I have been loving satsumas. Small and succulent, Satsumas make a tasty afternoon snack or just when you need a little something.

Gimme Brow:
This actually featured in my favourites last month but my love for it this month is still going strong.

With all the cold weather that we have been having, my lips have been a complete nightmare and to be honest, the only thing that has saved them is Carmex. Thankfully, they seem to be back to normal now.

Polar Watch:
I've had this watch for over a year and I go through phases of using it. This month I have been using it a lot and it's been interesting to see the data.

The Cuckoo's Calling:
I'm always reading books and this month my choice has been 'The Cuckoo's Calling' by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling). I've not quite finished it yet but so far it is really good.

Heck Food:
As a fitness lover, this brand is one of the best that I have come across in regards to protein and fat content. They taste pretty fine too and I thought I was doing so well finding them until the Christmas ranges started to move in and I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Hopefully come January, the supplies will be plentiful...

If there is one thing I know, then it is that you can never go wrong with a foodie gift.

Life | This Week #060...

001) This week could not have started off any worse than it did: Glasses left at my parents house, Water leaks, bad blog stuff and to top it off an epic fall in Body Attack which led to an injured ankle. Next week can not come soon enough.

002) As part of my quest to become much healthier, I have been trying out lots of healthy recipes which fit my macros. This week I have tried Cinnamon Quinoa Bake and also Peanut Butter Brownies which both taste absolutely incredible. The Peanut Butter Brownies are on a completely different level. Anyone for a recipe?

003) A few weeks ago I stumbled across Kiko Cosmetics in Glasgow and picked up a few things (You can see what I picked up here). Now they have just opened up their Aberdeen store and once again I popped in to have a little look...and may have purchased some new things for myself.

004) Christmas - a little further forward than I was last week.

Eats | Baked Falafel...

Falafel is perhaps one of my favourite things to eat and thrown with some form of salad it makes the perfect lunch. However, most of the recipes that I have seen online call for it to be lightly fried...until I came across a baked recipe which suits me much better.

To make some Falafel, you will need:

1 cup Chickpeas
1/2 cup Onion
1/2 cup fresh Coriander
1/2 cup fresh Parsley
3 cloves Garlic
2 Tsp fresh Lemon Juice
1 Tsp Ground Cumin
1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp Salt

001)Preheat the oven to 190c.
002) Allow the chickpeas to soak overnight so that they are nice and soft to use. Canned Chickpeas will not work as well.
003) Add the Chickpeas as well as all the other ingredients into a Food Processor and blend until you can squeeze them into balls. If they are processed too much then they will not squeeze into balls and fall apart.
004) Place Falafels onto a baking tray and bake in the oven for approximately 25 minutes turning them over halfway through.

Currently Coveting #010 | The Space NK Edition...

Living in the North of Scotland means that my nearest brick and mortar Space NK store is in Glasgow or Edinburgh. As Aberdeen sadly does not have one (please change this!) it means that I have to resort to online shopping at Space NK which sometimes has its downsides.

Fitness | Kitty Yoga...

Yoga and Cats are pretty high up on my list of favourite things. So when The Cat in the Window Cafe started Kitty Yoga sessions on a Thursday night, I decided I definitely could not miss out on booking a session with a friend.

Christmas Gift Guide | The Beauty Edition...

With Christmas fast approaching and brands releasing new products in time for the Christmas rush, now is the time of year that my wishlist is longer than ever. I must say that I am pretty impressed with the offerings this year: I personally think Real Techniques have done a fabulous job with their limited edition sets.

So in regards to this, today I have compiled a collection of some of my current favourites suitable for the Beauty Junkie in your life whether that is yourself or a loved one.

Morphe Brushes 7 Piece Rose Brush Set - £18.00
Smith & Cult Holiday Nail Trio - £47.00
Stila Star Light Star Bright Highlighting Palette - £32.00

Life | This Week #059...

001) I spent a few days at the beginning of this week in York with my Mum. I had never been before and it was absolutely beautiful. It was really easy to get to from Edinburgh and the tickets were cheap too.

Fitness | Floatfit...

Activities that require balancing have never been my strong point. In Primary School I managed to fracture my arm on my 1st ski lesson; in Horse Riding lessons I fell off too many times to count and the first time on a skateboard...well that also ended up in disaster!

Beauty | Dermalogica Power Rescue Masque Trio...

If there is one thing that I love then it is most definitely a pampering session or two. Facemasks are one of my favourite treatments so I got a little excited when Dermalogica offered to send me one of their Christmas sets to try out.

Dermalogica's Power Rescue Masque trio set contains 3 masks: Charcoal Rescue Mask ; Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask and a Skin Hydrating Mask. The Charcoal Rescue Mask detoxifies and energises the skin while also acting as an exfoliator while the Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask repairs and restores damaged skin. Finally the Skin Hydrating Mask does exactly as it says on the tin: boosts your skin's hydration. These masks can be used either on their own or you can do what I did and multi-mask (which worked a treat!)

Dermalogica Power Rescue Masque Christmas Trio is available at Look Fantastic for £43.25

Life | This Week #058...

001) The past couple of weeks I seem to have fallen off the blogging bandwagon. I have had posts planned but if I'm honest a bit of lack of motivation to blog as I know there is so much background stuff that needs to be done. However, I am home at my parents this week so I am planning on dedicating a lot of time solely on this little space on the web.

Beauty | Kiko Cosmetics...

As much as you may or may not believe me, stumbling across Kiko Cosmetics was a complete accident. One day I had a little time to kill in the centre of Glasgow so I started to wander around the Buchanan Street area when I came across it.

Now having heard all about this brand from various blogs, I was intrigued to try them out and I decided to venture in for a browse (and maybe a sneaky purchase or two...)

What struck me the most about Kiko Cosmetics was the range that was available. Honestly I must have spent about 30 mins wandering around looking at the products as I didn't even know where to begin! They have absolutely everything available and in various different finishes too. In addition, the products themselves are really purse-friendly - some are even under £5.00!

Here is what I picked up:

Have you tried anything from Kiko Cosmetics?

Kiko Cosmetics is coming very soon to Union Square Aberdeen. Keep an eye on their twitter (@UnionSqAberdeen) to keep up-to-date on the launch day

Life | This Week #057...

001) On Thursday, I experienced Kitty Yoga at the local Cat Cafe. It was actually quite an enjoyable experience and the cats were pretty cute.

002) This weekend I have been watching 'The Crown' on Netflix like it has been going out of fashion. 4 episodes in and I am well and truly hooked. It is well worth a watch!

003) This week saw the start of re-educating myself  on nutrition. Despite always being at the gym, my nutrition was never particularly great and undoubtedly  good nutrition and good fitness go hand in hand. So, with the help of a local professional, this week I have started to transform my nutritional habits so that my body can be the best it can be. I'm not going to lie, it has been difficult so far but the real surprise is how much of an eye-opener it has been.

004) How is it November?

Eats | Corner Tree Cafe...

Corner Tree Cafe is  just around the corner from my work but I hadn't manage to venture in there until a couple of weekends ago when I met up with some of the Aberdeen blogger girlies for a catch-up and brunch.

Monthly Favourites | October...

You know that the dark nights are well and truly setting in when the heating is on and you're writing your October favourites. This month brought several exciting blog experiences, a weekend back home doing absolutely nothing but chilling with my bestie and blog work. It also saw a Halloween party, my first attempt at following a Youtube tutorial, a FloatFit session (more on that soon) and a rediscovery of a previous favourite product.

Life | This Week #056...

001) This week I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new jacket from Fat Face. It's a beauty and more than likely one of my most expensive clothing purchases to date. It's pretty cosy though!

002) On Saturday, my friend hosted her Halloween party. I'm not the type of person who goes all out for Halloween but I decided this year to go as a deer using one of the many tutorials on Youtube. Considering I didn't try it out before I left, it actually turned out ok.

003) On Monday, I finished reading 'Me before you' which was absolutely amazing. I managed to miss the film when it was out so I thought I would give the book a go. Loved it so much that I'm definitely going to pick up the 2nd one. Now I need a new read...any recommendations?

004) Between working full-time and heading to the gym, I miss a lot of TV so I have to rely on catch-up. This weekend I have managed to catch-up on Paranoid (which is incredible) and I've also just started The Level which is also really good.

Events | Orchid Winter Menu Preview...

With Orchid being seen as one of Aberdeen's most exciting cocktail venues, it was with no hesitation that I headed along to their Winter menu preview event along with some other Aberdeen bloggers.

Currently Coveting #009 | The Jacket Edition...

With Autumn here and Winter well and truly on it's way, my thoughts have turned to looking for the perfect, cosy jacket to see me through the cold months.

The High Street currently has a really good selection available with plenty of styles to choose from. So if you prefer Pea over Puffer or Leopard over Bomber, there is something available for everyone.

Life | This Week #055...

001) On Sunday, I headed along to Corner Tree Cafe for a blogger brunch. The French Toast which I had was absolutely incredible and it was lovely to chat away with the girls about blogging and all sorts. It was lovely to see a few new faces too.

002) This week I booked Kitty Yoga at the local Cat Cafe for November. I'm quite intrigued by this whole concept and also I have never been to the Cat Cafe.

003) Thursday evening was spent down at Orchid experiencing some Cocktail Making, Gin Tasting and being introduced to their brand new cocktail menu. It is really good but you will have to stay tuned to see more of that later!

004) On Friday, I headed home to dog-sit for my parents for the weekend. As I had time to kill in Glasgow before my train, I decided to have a look around the shops for a little while. I must say that Glasgow Beauty Bloggers are so lucky to have so many brands on their doorstep! Aberdeen needs to play catch up!

Fitness | The Beast Race 2016...

"Your Body can stand almost anything, It's your mind you have to convince"

Sometimes it is only when you challenge yourself that you can see the true strength that your body has. And that is certainly true for me.

Only a few years ago, I really struggled with the concept of exercise - I had no interest in it whatsoever and I hadn't done since I was very young (You can read my fitness story here). Nowadays, I'm never away from the gym and the harder that the session is, the more I enjoy it (I'm a glutton for punishment) and so now when new opportunities arise for a challenge, I jump at the chance.

The Beast Race is a 10K obstacle race which takes place in September in either Banchory or Loch Ness. Having seen Christy from Dinner Stories take part the last couple of years, I decided that I would definitely have to give it a go at some point. And so this year I signed myself up along with Christy and also Laura from Laura Whispering as team 'Bloggers & the Beast'.

Now aside from the Beast looking like fun, I also signed up to prove a point to myself that I was capable of doing such a thing. In addition, I was also interested to see what my body could do outside of a gym environment as well as seeing how far I could run (By no means am I a runner in any shape or form!). I also thought it would be fun to get a little mucky and wet for once in my life.

The day of Beast Race approached much faster than I thought it would (I swear life speeds up as you get older...) and admittedly I hadn't done much in the form of running at all. I generally do some cardio throughout the week but for Beast, I wanted to focus on running a little more as I had heard all about 'the dreaded hill'...

On race day, leaving my thoughts about 'The Hill' aside, I put on some suitable workout gear (I actually had to pop out in the morning to get a longer sleeved top as the weather was rubbish with weather warnings and such...), laced up my trainers and waited patiently for my wave time (2pm if you must know).

Wave time eventually arrived and with registering and the warm-up complete, it was then time to tackle the Beast!

The first obstacle that we had to complete were 4 rows of hay bales. Now these things are much higher than you think. Surprisingly, I managed to get over them without too many issues although you can lose your momentum when someone comes flying over the top of you...

After the hay bales, it was onwards and upwards towards the dreaded hill. Here, we had a steep run up the hill but at one point a lot of people were walking as the path was so narrow and you couldn't pass anyone. Once we reached the top there was a Piper piping and also a mini wall to climb over and then we were on our way all the way back down...

On the way back down, we encountered a run through the forest, 'ankle biters', cargo net, a bog, a sandbag carry and a few other things in between. After that....things got really messy!

The messy obstacles were definitely my favourite. These included a slide (where I picked up my beast wound), a clay pit with a rope climb, a skip filled with water that you had to climb in and out and a few other obstacles. It was so much fun!

One of the worst photos ever taken of me....(on the left!)

Overall, I really enjoyed my 1st Beast experience and I'm definitely wanting to do it again. I think that if you are thinking about giving it a go, then definitely do it. There were people of all ages and abilities taking part. If you don't feel that you will be able to do an obstacle, you have the option to miss it out completely. I actually missed out the high wall as I hurt my shoulder going over the hay bales at the start and didn't want to push it seeing as I had physio for my shoulder not too long ago. If I'm honest, I'm actually surprised that my only injury was my beast wound which is down below for your viewing pleasure (or viewing non-pleasure)...

If you want to see the full action from the day, you can check out Christy's go-pro footage here

Thank you Beast Race for creating an enjoyable experience for us!

Life | Cosy Autumn Night in...

This time of year is my favourite. I love seeing the colour carpets that form around us and the cold, crisp air which is perfect for an Autumn walk. I also like evenings where I can light a candle, snuggle up in a blanket and binge-watch my favourite Netflix show (currently Gilmore Girls) without feeling guilty that I should be doing something.

So what are my essentials for a cosy, Autumn evening?

Beauty | Dr Jart Water Fuse BB Beauty Balm...

Base products are something that I am a little picky about and never change. However, for some reason (make sure you're sitting down for this), I decided to go a little crazy and switch up one of my base products before my current one had run out.

Life | This Week #054...

001) On Sunday I headed along to Revolution for the launch of their new pizza menu. As usual, the food was incredible and who would have known that Chicken Satay on a pizza tastes so good! You can get a full pizz-a the action here.

002) This week, I also got to experience Float Fit for the first time. Only available in London and, surprisingly, Aberdeen, Float Fit really tests your core strength to the limit. I'll actually have a full run-down coming to the blog very soon.

003) Is it me or is it when you get older, you care less about material items and more about the experiences? I've had this huge urge this week to go through my flat and minimalise. It's quite possible that this is to do with the fact I hate cleaning/tidying with a passion.

004) This week, I decided to switch up one of my base products and opted for a Dr Jart product. So far so good...

Fitness | Lululemon 3mm Reversible Mat review...

Having been a Yoga convert for two years, I have used a variety of mats. It was only once my gym got some mats that were far too slippery for practice that I decided to invest in my own.

Originally, I bought one from TK Maxx which is brilliant but it is starting to get a little worn through practice. So when I was down in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago, I decided to visit the Lululemon store and invest in a new one.

Fashion | Trend Report #008: The Boyfriend trend...

I'm going to be 100% honest: I love an oversized, boyfriend trend. How can you not love the idea of sitting curled up in something oversized with a hot chocolate and a log burner on the go? It is definitely my idea of heaven.

Right now the High Street is full of all things oversized: everything right from shirts to jackets is oversized. There is something that will look good and appeal to everyone.

Eats | Getting a Pizz-a the Revolution...

Revolution is one of those places that I have always recommended for good food and good cocktails and in particular their pizza.

Recently I was invited, along with some other Aberdeen bloggers, to come along and sample their new pizza menu which is officially launching on 12th October. Now as a Pizza lover, I definitely couldn't turn this opportunity down!

Eats | Slice 'N' Easy...

Aberdeen has a lot of good places to eat but not so many independent pizza places until now...

Sunday, 9 October 2016

Life | This Week #053...

001) This week saw a launch of a new pizza place in Aberdeen called Slice 'n' easy. Lots of yummy pizzas available to try with a few unusual combinations. Stay tuned for more on that soon.

002) The Yoga Mat that I bought last week was put through its paces this week. It's definitely one of my best investments yet and, like the pizza, I'll have more coming up on this later this week.

003) The arrival of October seems to have brought an instant chill to the atmosphere and needless to say I don't have a suitable jacket. Time to go shopping I think!

004) Urgh Cold Season! I've had a headache all day which gets worse if I cough. Strangely enough, on my timehop for the past 3 years, I have had some form of cold/illness.

Fitness | More Mile Cheviot 3 Off road trail shoes...

Signing up to Beast Race, I only had one thought on my mind: Footwear. Originally I was planning on wearing just normal gym trainers but after realising that my normal pair slip even on wet pavements (Aberdeen pavements are slippy), I decided to have a rethink.
