Goals 2013

2012 brought with it, amongst other things, a goal list for myself. When I initially typed a list of things to achieve at the beginning of 2012, I seriously had doubts about whether I would  keep it up-to-date without it disappearing into the Abyss. In the end, I did manage to keep it (fairly) up-to-date.

Therefore, I have decided in 2013 to do another list to both challenge myself and to make my life a bit more exciting.

2013 Goals:

001)Find a permanent job
002)Take part in a charity event: Race for Life, Moonwalk etc
003)Decorate Bedroom
004)Decorate Hallway
005)Minimise clutter in flat
006)Print out 100 photographs from my own work
007)Complete 3 sketches/drawings
008)Make more of an effort to be self-sufficient (making own bread, jam etc)
009)Read Life of Pi
010)Watch The Notebook (I'm probably the only person on the planet who hasn't seen it)
011)Go to Edinburgh Castle (I've lived 30 mins away for 16 years and I have never been....)
012)Save £500 - I am the world's worst person for saving....It goes something like 'ooooh that lipstick is pretty...I don't have one in that colour'
013)Watch 'The Seven Year Itch' and coincidentally watch all Marilyn Monroe films I can find
014)Climb a hill/mountain - 'Ben Ahee' anyone?
015)Make a Cheesecake
016)Finish building my flat-pack camera which is currently sitting on a stool
017)Build my pin-hole camera
018)Grow some window herbs to use in cooking
019)Host 2 dinner parties
020)Go home to my parents house to gut out my old bedroom...
021)Go on 2 photography adventures with photography-mad friends....

Seriously, how is it almost December already? Normally I don't get panicked about Xmas shopping but this year....well. Although I think my panicking comes down to the fact that I will have to do mine when it's ridiculously busy as I now work Monday-Friday (which does have its perks right enough)

Anyway due to my new work pattern, I have been enjoying life to the full with lots of nights out, dinners and occasional crafty nights in amongst other things. It's a refreshing change from working in retail and now having one routine with set days off instead of 5 days out of 7. It's safe to say that I now know what the 'Friday feeling' feels like...

Ring-a-ding-ding - Jewellery Haul

So a few weeks ago, I popped into the new Internacionale store in Aberdeen which had recently re-opened after a couple of months absence in the city. I had heard some good things about the new store since it had re-opened from a few people who used to work with the company so I thought it was time I paid a visit.

Here is what I (eventually) picked up:

Bit of a theme going on here...

Have you bought anything from Internacionale recently?

MAC Fanfare

I am in love with MAC lipsticks - they are creamy, they smell nice, they come in a variety of different finishes and a have huge, colour selection which I can guarantee even the pickiest lipstick lover will find a shade they love.

MAC Fanfare is one of my newer lipstick shades to my collection. It is a gorgeous, neutral pink which is perfect for during the day. It would suit most people as it is so wearable. Generally speaking, I tend to shy away from shades that are brighter than what I normally wear. However, Fanfare is slightly brighter than what I'm used to and you know what....I really like it.

Leaving the hustle & bustle behind...

Sometimes you have to leave the city life behind for a day to explore the world outside. A couple of weeks ago, my friends and I did just that and headed to Castle Fraser which is just outside Aberdeen. It was a perfect autumn day - sunny but with a crisp, autumnal feel.

MAC Haul

I'll admit I've been a bit out of the loop recently. I'm so caught up in my new job as well as enjoying the free weekends that I now have, that I've hardly had time to even switch on a computer, never mind blog.

Anyway, I'm back with lots of ideas for posts so to start with I am posting a MAC Haul.

MAC, Haul, Lipstick, Fanfare, Brave, Dollymix

MAC is one of those brands which I tend to buy if I fancy a little treat, although in the last year since I started buying it, I have acquired a little pile. I think my favourite item are the lipsticks as they are really nice and they smell lovely too.

The items which I am featuring here were purchased around a month ago from the MAC store in Glasgow Airport. After subjecting my mum to an extended hand swatching session, I finally decided to come away with these products:

MAC, Haul, Lipstick, Fanfare, Brave, Dollymix
L-R: Brave, Dollymix, Fanfare

Now that Autumn is in full swing, I have been enjoying cosy nights in armed with a large mug of tea, a good book or a cross-stitch (Granny much?). I think when Autumn creeps in, I like to step away from the laptop sometimes and enjoy the simple life before the internet, which is why, unless scheduled, there has not been much regular posting or youtube action.

What do you enjoy once Autumn kicks in?

PS:I honestly need to start doing these Instagram posts much more often - I've had to omit a fair few pictures this time.

Leaving on a jet plane...

One of the perks of being at home, however briefly :)

I'm off to England for a few days to spend time with family so I won't be posting until I'm back :).
Until then xx

Soap & Glory Lid Stuff eyeshadow - What's nude

Eyeshadow is one of my daily essentials. Over time I have built up quite a collection, which mainly consists of neutral shades. I was already a fan of the Soap & Glory make-up range so I was looking forward to trying out their eyeshadows.

Soap & Glory, Lid Stuff, eyeshadow,what's nude,make-up

Soap & Glory, Lid Stuff, eyeshadow,what's nude,make-up

What the product claims to do:
"4 shades of fabulous flawless - finish, superior super colour. 8 hour wear eyeshadow (that won't flake, won't fade and won't crease). Brush shades on sheer - then blend or build in layers for bigger, bolder lid colour.
- amazing, intense second-skin like colour finish, matte or metallic.
- superior creamy payoff - from a powder
- 8 hour wear"

What I thought:
This product is probably one of my most used make-up products that I own. The 4 shades (Vanilla, Pink T, Mudhoney & Aubersheen) are gorgeous and are individual enough to create 4 different looks. Although they are also really nice when you blend them together. The consistency of the shadows is fairly chalky, which in general I'm not overly keen on, but with these I found that this makes them much easier to blend together. With regards to staying power, I would say that these eyeshadows easily last for 8 hours.

Soap & Glory lid stuff retails for £10 and is available from Boots.

Have you ever tried any of Soap & Glory's make-up range?

Teacups & Buttondrops turns 2!!

Edinburgh Panda :)

Believe it or not, Teacups & Buttondrops is officially 2 today.

2 years ago, I sat down and wrote my first post and 2 years later I'm still here. Since I began, I have learnt so much about blogging - from tweaking HTML to what makes a good read. I've also been fortunate enough to meet some lovely bloggers and also to interact with others through their own blogs and on twitter.

In essence, I guess what I want to say is Thank You for the past 2 years. Every comment that has been left or everyone that follows has always put a smile on my face. Thank you :)

Now if you dare, here are some blasts from the past:

Glossy Box September 2012

Glossy Box September 2012

Another month, another Glossy Box. This time it's a limited edition box designed by up and coming illustrator Maggie Li. I must admit the box is probably one of the prettiest I have seen and it fits perfect with my taste. The theme of this box was rising stars.

Glossy Box September 2012

What was in it:

Lady Gaga - Fame fragrance sample
Rodial - Glamoxy Snake Serum & 5 Minute Facial
Balance Me - Wonder Eye Cream
Vichy - Idealia Day Care Cream
Maghrabian - Hair Oil

What I thought:
I wouldn't say that this was one of my favourite boxes apart from the design. There was one product which, on first impressions, I liked and that was the Lady Gaga fragrance sample (so nice!). The others were products I didn't really feel for upon first impression. However, I have only received them, so my opinions may change :).

Glossy Box is £12.95 (inc £2.95 p&p) and is available from

17 Miracle Matte pressed powder

It is very rare that I stray away from my Natural Collection pressed powder (I think this is the first time in about 7 years) but when I saw this one on special offer a while ago, I had to give it a whirl.

17 Miracle Matte pressed powder

17 Miracle Matte pressed powder

What the product claims to do:
'Reveal the miracle of flawless skin. For up to 16 hours shine control, use this pressed powder over your foundation for a soft matte finish'

What I thought:
To be honest I wasn't overly enamoured with this product as I have been with others. I didn't love it, but I didn't strictly hate it either.  Yes, it does give a matte finish over my foundation as stated, but it doesn't last as long as it says it does. I feel that a more accurate description of around 6-8 hours would be appropriate for staying power. However staying power aside, I love the packaging. It's really sturdy and judging by the amount of times I dropped it, it seems to protect the product. It also comes with a mirror inside.

17 Miracle Matte pressed powder retails for £3.99 and is available from Boots.

Thrifty finds #2

This thrifty finds version comes courtesy of my mum. She was clearing out some things at home and came across these little treasures.

Debenhams wool coat: believe it or not it is a size 10....massive!

Black cape - I have been wanting this particular one for about a year :). Fun fact: My dad once wore this when he dressed up as a Witch for a Brownie pack holiday. The Brownies all got to chase him - I was unfortunately a few months too young to be a Brownie then. I actually would've loved to see him as a Witch.

What do you think of these? Has a relative ever handed anything down to you?

Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara

I'm going to be straight with you: I like high street mascaras. I've never been someone who has bought high-end mascaras - I think the only one I have ever bought was Bad Gal by Benefit (I went through a Benefit phase). I think that the high street has some great mascaras to be found. However, as you probably noticed by the title, I am not reviewing a high street mascara this time. For once, I am reviewing a high end mascara.

I was introduced to this mascara by Glossybox (Harrods edition if I remember) and got excited as I like mascaras in Glossyboxes. The sample I received was 2ml.

Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara

Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara

What the product claims to do:
To provide instant, full-lash volume.

What I thought:
I thought that the product did give instant, noticeable volume as described. However, I felt that this product smudged really easily on my eyes to the point I could've been mistaken for a panda. Panda eyes aside, I probably would make a purchase of this, but get the waterproof version to see if there was a difference.

Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara retails for £21 and is available from Debenhams & John Lewis amongst other retailers.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

BB creams are one of the latest beauty trends to hit the high street. I must admit when I first heard about them, I didn't understand them and it was a while before I popped onto the bandwagon.

Maybelline is a brand which suits my skin. I consistently go back to their 'Dream Satin liquid foundation' as my go-to foundation. So when I saw that they released a BB cream, I thought it would be rude not to try one from their range seeing as it suits my skin.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

What the product claims to do:
'Instant fresh-faced glow without looking all made-up, our gel-based formula enhances skin with 8 benefits in 1'.

  1. Creates a natural glow
  2. Compliments skin tone
  3. SPF30 UV Protection
  4. Hydrates all day
  5. Blurs imperfections
  6. Oil-free, non-greasy
  7. Looks visibly smooth.
  8. Feels fresh

What I thought of the product:
As my first venture into BB creams, I really like it. It is lighter than foundation which suits me fine as I much prefer a lighter coverage. It creates a natural, dewy glow which last for around 8-9 hours. I also like how blendable this product is and the fact it has SPF protection. Overall, this is a product I would recommend and I would buy this again.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream retails at £7.99 and is available from Boots, Superdrug amongst other retailers.

Haddo House

One Sunday, a while ago, I embarked on a little adventure with one of my friends to Haddo House. Haddo House is a gorgeous mansion set within some lovely grounds (which includes a massive lake). On the day we went, the weather was being particularly Scottish as in it couldn't decide what it was doing. There were numerous times that we just stood under an umbrella for fear of getting drenched if we moved.

We took a walk around the lake (which was massive) and met lots of dog walkers along with the largest amount of geese I have ever encountered - Barnacle and Canadian Geese. Seriously, I have never seen so many geese. We also met a family of swans - although the male got pretty defensive with us at first, raising his wings up until he realised we weren't actually going to do anything but admire their beauty.

After a long walk around the lake and hiding in the numerous animal hides they have, we had some lunch and then went home. We didn't go into the house as we both were fairly wet, thanks to the lovely Scottish weather.

Here are a few photos of the walk around the grounds:

Have you ever been to Haddo House? What is your favourite country walk?

The Body Shop: Peppermint Intensive Foot Rescue

If there is one part of my body that I hate then it would be my feet. Generally speaking feet creep me out - even someone speaking about them is enough to make me go yuck! Anyway, recently I have been trying to look after my feet and my first port of call was tackling the hard skin.

I had heard through the blogosphere that The Body Shop did a good foot rescue, so I set out to pick one up.

The Body Shop Peppermint intensive foot rescue

The Body Shop Peppermint intensive foot rescue

The Body Shop Peppermint intensive foot rescue

What the product claims to do:
"Smoothing community trade cocoa butter, peppermint oil & grape acids soften hard skin & help prevent dry cracked heels."

What I thought:
This product was easy to use. I simply applied it all over my feet (quite generously I may add) and popped on a pair of cotton socks and left it overnight to do it's magic.
In the morning, my feet were left really smooth. I usually use this twice a week (as per instructions) and since I started using it, my feet have remained smooth.

Have you ever tried this product? Do you know of any products that do a similar thing?

Peppermint Intensive Foot Rescue is available both instore and online ( and retails for £9.

25 years of Amey....

It's my birthday today and while I am catching up with family at home (this is a scheduled the time I was born...haha), I thought you would enjoy seeing some old photos of me growing up that I found on my laptop. I have edited some of these as there are other people in them, who probably don't want to be on here (apart from my mum, as she is just lovely and has been on here before :)).

So onto the photos:

A few days old :)

A bit older...

I believe this could have been one of my birthdays. There are so many pics of me in this dress!

Wood walking - Mummy & daughter in matching colours. I wonder if my mum still has that jumper...

Playing in the paddling pool :)

First day of school - The Little Mermaid lunchbox ftw

In another wood on a swing. We did a lot of walking in woods when I was young - we did have a black lab.

Probably ~14 here...

Don't ask...

Mum's graduation a few years ago

A few weeks ago - probably slightly drunk...

I hope you enjoyed looking at these pics :)
