Life | This Week #077...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_77

001) First things first, who brought the Sunshine to the party? This weekend I have spent as much time as possible soaking up the sunshine as it's usually a case of blink-and-you-miss-it in Scotland. Yesterday I went for a lovely long dog walk with my friend along the beach and today I took myself off to one of the local parks beside to river to do some April content planning. I may have got a little burnt...

002) Last week I mentioned that I wanted to switch out one of my morning coffees for a herbal tea and that is exactly what I did. The first day I made the mistake of switching my first cup out. Rookie mistake - I was falling asleep at my desk by 9.30 am. The next day I kept the first one and changed the 2nd. Result.

003) This week has been a little about self-care. I really am a glutton for punishment so I decided that it would probably be a good idea to start taking care of myself a bit better. On Thursday I injured my calf once again in the same class as last week. Instead of pushing on and going to combat on Friday like I usually would, I decided to have a rest day instead which I think is doing it the world of good.

004) You know when you buy things but then forget about them for ages? That. On Friday I was off work so I actually had to get into something that wasn't work stuff, gym stuff or PJs. Looking for a jumper in my wardrobe, I stumbled across a vintage sweatshirt that I bought ages ago and never worn. Since Friday I haven't taken it off...

I love a good Blondie. I also love Caramac. So what happens when you combine the two together? An epic combination that is what.

Beauty | Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer...

Concealers are a girl's best friend. Currently I have 3 concealers on the go that I use daily. One of these is Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer which I picked up on a whim whilst shopping in Boots.

Life | This Week #076...

001) This week I rediscovered just how much Sports Massages hurt - I even  have the bruises to prove it! However, my legs did feel bouncy afterwards so the benefits of one definitely outweigh the bruises.

Life | Why I am learning to embrace Minimalism...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Embracing_Minimalism

I am a clutter bug - I always have been (although not to hoarder/Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners standard). When I was younger, I used to revel going into town on a Saturday and spending pocket money on silly little things (In those days you could get a lot for your money). In addition, when I worked in retail, staff sales were pretty much impulsive buys and so were purchases made when I was a student. I really had no end to buying things.

It was the same for many years until one day I thought why. Why am I buying things that essentially sit and gather dust? Why am I spending part of my precious weekends cleaning and tidying away 'things' when what it comes down to is that I simply have too much stuff? Just why?

Right now I live in a one bedroom flat in the city centre with very little storage and I have done for 8 years. There is definitely no room to hide things; no room to be able to buy excessive amounts and certainly no room for clutter. When I read Marie Kondo's 'The life changing magic of tidying' (brilliant book if you're wondering), something in the book really resonated with me and it was simply if  you don't enjoy an item anymore then why do you still have it?

Reading that was a mini-realisation in itself: I simply have a lot of things that I no longer care for. Sure someone else might care for them but for me personally not so much. This is partly why I want to embrace minimalism: to get rid of the things that I no longer care for or find joy in. In addition, I always feel happier and more relaxed when I'm in an environment that is clean and tidy. I'm also not so likely to freak out over surprise visitors (particularly my parents who have keys and turn up unannounced and drop things off). Furthermore, let's face it: I am barely in my flat with work, gym and socialising so things are simply sitting and gathering dust.

Life | This Week #075...

001) This weekend has been consumed by Caramac Blondie making. Over the weekend, I tried 2 different basic Blondie recipes and the first turned out a bit meh! The 2nd was alright and will be appearing on the blog later on.

002) Generally this week has been one of those meh weeks. I don't know what it was but let's just say I've had much better weeks.

003) Has anyone been watching The Replacement on BBC? I am actually hooked on it. I am sad that this coming week will be the last episode but I am excited to see how it pans out. In addition, I've also been loving Broadchurch recently. Oh and Homeland...and Call the Midwife.

004) Speaking of programmes, I have just started watching 'My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' over on Netflix after hearing so much about it from my friends. It is actually really good and well worth a watch.

005) I think after speaking about taking a bit more time for myself, I seem to have started to do that this week. On Monday I came home late from the gym and for once did not switch on my laptop. Instead I got into my Mermaid blanket and watched TV (with some Social Media loving too of course). Also on Saturday, I bought Vogue for the first time in forever and actually sat and read it for a while. I only got up when I had to actually do something constructive (which was tidying if you're interested).

Monthly Favourites | February...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_February_Favs

For me, February passed in a bit of a blur: all the weeks blended into one with a couple of 6 nations games thrown in for good measure. I reaffirmed my love for pamper sessions and pastel nails; got my hair done and also hit a few personal fitness goals.

This month I have been loving:

Capture your style - Aimee Song:

This book has been everywhere recently (along with a certain closet one). I spotted it on Amazon before Christmas and my parents kindly gifted me with it. The reason that I like it is jam-packed full of info and because I feel the need to up my Instagram game a little bit (it's @ameyjaney if you're wondering).

Pastel Nails:

Oh my pastel nails have been my new February obsession. In my eyes nothing says Spring quite like pastel nails. In particular, I have been in love with Essie Sweet Tart  and also Essie's classic Mint Candy Apple.

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer:

I'm a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to base products - I have my firm favourites which I always religiously stick to. However, I also love to buy new products. In February I purchased Bourjois Radiance Concealer and I am absolutely in love. Coverage is pretty awesome and long-lasting. Full review coming soon.

Origins Renewal Serum:

It's a known fact that I love Origins. Usually the Ginzing range is my go-to range. One day I went to repurchase the moisturiser and there was none in stock. However, they did have a gift set which contained it and it was also this gift set which contained the Renewal Serum. Since I got it I have been using it most days as part of my daily skincare routine. It smells absolutely incredible and works really well.

Instagram:

Finally I have been obsessed with Instagram this month and in particular Insta stories. I'm slowly beginning to get the hang of insta stories.

Beauty | Sabai Soap review...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Sabai_Soaps

Despite owning a shedload of beauty products, I always find that those products I enjoy using the most are those which are natural products.

Recently Sabai Soaps got in contact to see if I would like to trial one of their soaps. Being a lover of natural products, I agreed and was kindly sent the Green Seaweed Soap to trial.

So who are Sabai Soaps?

Sabai Soaps are a small family run business who specialise in providing  natural, organic and vegan friendly products. Their products are made in Thailand by local communities using local ingredients and packaged in recycled packaging. As Sabai believe in giving back to communities, 20% of the profits go back to charities which work within these local communities.

What did I think?

Well first things first, the smell of these products is incredible. I had barely managed to open the parcel when I was hit by a lovely, almost peppermint-y smell. In addition, the  packaging of these products is absolutely beautiful. It is definitely beautiful on the outside yes , but the real beauty is on the inside where you can still see what the packaging used to be - I think my one was previously a newspaper. Finally, the actual product is amazing to use and is SO gentle on the skin. Using this product definitely makes my showers that little bit better.

Fitness | Fulfil Protein Bar review...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Fulfil_nutrition

Protein Bars are a product that I never used to give much thought - they generally tasted pretty disgusting and I really didn't see the point in them. However since I decided to change my eating habits, it is something that I have started to look into as I now understand the importance of Protein in my diet. In addition, I have found that products like Protein Bars are great for people who are always on the go like myself as they are so easy to throw into a bag.

Life | This Week #074...

001) Just when I thought that the weather was getting better and Spring was beginning to show, it decides to throw a curve ball and get worse. Today I got absolutely soaked twice in the downpour that has been happening all day. Thankfully, aside from the gym and picking up a parcel, I didn't have to spend a large part of my day running errands.

002) This week a couple of my gym classes were cancelled and so I found that I had an evening to myself. To be honest, I forgot what it feels like to have a completely free weekday evening as I have been at the gym most nights for the last few years. I actually managed to get so much done which in turn left me with a bit more free time on Friday evening (when I usually do a bit of cleaning).

003) On Tuesday, I made the most perfect pancakes I have ever made. They were thick, fluffy and contained protein. I think I still want to try and make a healthier version at some point but they still were pretty damn tasty.

004) This weekend, I am absolutely determined to finish Breaking Bad - I have only 4 episodes left! It has only taken me a little while (ahem a year) to even get this far. I do enjoy it but I have got extremely distracted by other Netflix shows (Gilmore Girls if you're wondering).

005) My Body Pump chest track weight has been one of my weakest for quite a while thanks to injury. However this week I decided to take the bull by the horns and put my weight up once more (only increased it a couple of weeks ago). It absolutely kills me during the track but I know in the long run it will get easier and I will get stronger. Still squatting my 30kg Squat track weight though!

006) Sticking with the fitness theme, on Friday I managed to take a slice out of my head (I'll live if you're wondering) during Body Combat. It's supposed to be a non-contact class...

Trend Report #010 | The Anorak...

With Spring well and truly on its way (well unless Storm Doris/Ewan/whatever it is now has something to do with it), we can look forward to ditching our thick, Winter coats for something much thinner. However, as much as we would like to ditch the coat completely, the weather is still somewhat unpredictable and that is where the trusty Anorak comes in. Thin enough to stop you getting too hot but waterproof to keep you dry during those Spring showers.

Life | Hello March...

March is like another new beginning with the dark nights slowly drawing to a close and the light nights finally coming in. It is also when we see the first true signs of Spring: the lambs bouncing around in the fields and the Spring flowers bursting through the ground.

My main aim this month is to get myself sorted out: I need to get rid of the mind clutter that frequents my mind; complete the never ending to-do list and to really put myself out there. I also need to clear out cluttered areas of my flat and prioritise what makes me happy. I need to finish the unfinished books that are currently lying around and continue to learn and grow. I also need to be confident in my fitness abilities and know that yes I can squat 30kg in Body Pump for squat track.

What's on your March list?
