Life | Homeware Haul...

From a young age, I have been obsessed with interiors - a trip to IKEA is always top of my list if I've got time when I'm down in either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

So what did I buy?

Monthly Favourites | May ...

'At Home with...' - Lily Pebbles & Anna Gardner:

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will know that Lily & Anna are two of my favourite Youtubers to watch. They have now released a podcast where they go into well-known influential people's homes and have a good chat about...well pretty much everything. I have loved every episode so far and I personally cannot wait to see who they interview next.

Smoked Salmon:

Ok, I'll admit I have never really been a massive fan of Smoked Salmon. I just couldn't stand it. Until one day (fairly recently actually) I decided to make a salad with Smoked Salmon and ever since then I have been hooked (sorry couldn't resist).

The Food Medic:

One of my Instagram guilty pleasures is browsing  'The Food Medic' feed for meal inspiration. Now that Hazel has released a book, I have been using her book as daily inspiration for meals. And you know what? She makes a lot of sense. Having used a local fitness professional to help with my nutrition previously, everything Hazel has written coincides with what I have previously been told. The first section is jam-packed full of nutritional info and if I'm honest, it is one of the better (if not the best) healthy living books currently on the market.

Glass Teapot:

I love tea - if the name of this blog doesn't give it away. If I can, I generally enjoy drinking loose leaf tea a little more than bagged tea. However, loose leaf tea can be a bit of a pain to drink which is why this month, I decided to once again use my Glass Teapot which is designed for loose leaf tea so I could enjoy it a little more often.

Crew Cat Clothing:

I have already spoken about my love for Crew Cat Clothing before. However, last month I ordered some of their newer items from their website. I can safely say that their 'Crossover Hoody' is the best hoody you will ever own.

With the weather amping up the heat a little bit (although I am writing this on the wettest day ever), I have been starting to enjoy making smoothies a little bit more. Banana, Acai Berry and berries is usually a winner for me.

Life | Hello June...

Well May has been and gone in a blink of an eye. In May, I enjoyed spending a little less time in front of the laptop and a little more time being me. I was also able to spend a few weekends with my parents simply because I felt like it (now that I don't have to spend several hours travelling to see them).

Fitness | My top 3 kitchen appliances for healthier living...

With healthy eating being a massive thing right now, there are a million and one appliances on the market - from soup makers to blenders there seems to be something for every possible requirement.

However, to be healthy, you really don't need to splash out on every single appliance going. Seriously don't. Some of the ones available, I would class as a complete waste of time and money. In addition, if you're limited on space like myself, then you really don't need additional appliances cluttering up your kitchen.

So what 3 appliances do I recommend?

George Foreman:

I always said I would never get one of these - I didn't see the point in them. However, I have now have one after a recommendation from a friend. I use it all of the time for grilling absolutely anything. The version I have is the 2 portion which is compact and retails for around £20.00. I loved mine so much that I actually bought my parents one for Christmas and they are just as addicted to theirs as much as I am to mine,

Food Processor:

My Food Processor is probably my most used appliance - I use it in everything that I do. So whether I'm making Energy Balls or making part of a main meal, it has become an essential for me that I can't live without. Food Processors are relatively cheap for a basic one to start out with. Mine is a Kenwood one which was around £30.00

Breville Actiblend:

While a blender may not be on everyone's list, I find this compact one pretty useful to use. Sometimes I do use it for smoothies while other times I use it for blending up something for a recipe. This one is particularly good as the blade screws onto the actual cup and then once blended you replace the blade with the lid. Anything that reduces washing up is a must for me.

Fashion | Shopping for Vintage pieces...

Shopping for vintage clothing and accessories can sometimes be a little bit daunting for someone who has never done it before. Not only do you have to take into account your actual body measurements as opposed to just a generic size (10,12,14 etc) but you also have to pick your way through hundreds of individual pieces to find the one. It's definitely not a hobby for those people who have little or no patience.

Life | 25 Things about me...

You can never know too much about someone right? So today I thought I would share 25 things that you may or may not know about me.

001) I have a thing about switching switches off before I go to bed. Sometimes it can take me an additional 30 mins or so for me to go to bed as I check everything numerous times. No wonder I am tired in the morning!

002) I am an only child.

003) I have a fear of running fast on a treadmill. This is not helped much by the sheer amount of videos I have seen of people face planting on treadmills.

 004) I am petrified of Snakes.

005) Human feet - in any shape or form (including my own) - creep the s**t out of me. I always hope in Body Balance/Yoga I don't get someone's foot cm away from me.

006) I was born in Norwich and lived in England for the 1st 9 years of my life.

007) When I unplug any sort of charger, I have a strange thing of not allowing it to touch anything even when it is unplugged. Let's just say my living room floor can look amusing in the morning.

008) I used to have a cat called Gunpowder. My Dad's plan was to have 3 called Gunpowder, Treason & Plot. However, his plan was flawed as we only got 2 and I named the other one Mopsy (I was 6!)

009) My favourite book is 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee

010) Apparently when I was really small, I asked my parents to get a divorce. Why? So I could get more presents, haha. Needless to say, they are still happily married 30 years later.

011) Squid are one of my favourite creatures in the entire world and they are even more interesting when they are dissected. They are not so interesting cooked I may add...

012) I went on a school visit to the prison (which may or may not have been conveniently located beside my high school)

013) I have a degree in Zoology.

014) My favourite song in the entire world is 'Wherever you will go' by The Calling.

015) I have a Golden Retriever called Alfie who is too intelligent for his own good.

016) My favourite film is 'The Lion King'

017) Tequila is my nemesis. I once got so drunk on Tequila (it seems like 10+ shots and whatever else we had been drinking prior to that is not a good combination) that I ended up falling over and severely damaging one of my ankles. It was fun waking up the next morning and not really having much memory of what had happened...until I was filled in. Funny how I can't stand the stuff now...unless it's Tequila Rose.

018) I have Epilepsy.

019) I can play the piano.

020) I have a number of different nicknames used by various people: AJ, Ameyjaney, Ames, Amester and my Dad's favourite - boy.

021) My ultimate comfort clothes consist of a massive hoody, over-sized t-shirt and some form of leggings. Usually accompanied with no bra (so glamorous), cosy socks and no make-up.

022) If someone offered me a bag of sweets or a packet of biscuits, I would pick the biscuits every single time.

023) I am obsessed with tea.

024) My time of birth is officially recorded as 4am although according to what I've heard, I was actually born a few mins before that, Apparently one of my relatives (on my Dad's side I believe) was born at 4am so it was changed to match that.

025) I broke my arm dry-slope skiing with my Primary School. Needless to say, I've not been back...

Life | Nuart Aberdeen...

Aberdeen has a bit of a reputation for being a little grey (and I'm not talking just about the weather). However, recently that has changed as artists have been putting splashings of colour on the city's buildings as part of Nuart Aberdeen Festival.

Nuart is a festival that originated in Stavanger, Norway and features artists using buildings as a canvas to create art. The organisers of Nuart wanted to expand the festival out of Norway and so they chose Aberdeen (which is a twin city of Stavanger) to feature first.

Walking about the city trying to find these is a lot of fun. While there are some we didn't locate and were elsewhere - the ones we managed to find were pretty cool to see. If you're in Aberdeen, then I highly recommend that you give these a visit before they wash away.

Monthly Favourites | April...

Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum with Willowherb:

I think I've declared my love for this product before and once again it has made my favourites. This product is a serum which has the aim of restoring your skin. I really like this product as I do feel that it does help my skin out.

Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream:

Another skincare product has made it into this month's favourites. This time it is Benefit's It's Potent! Eye Cream which I have been using daily. One of my worst areas is definitely my eyes - I am particularly jealous of those people that can go out with no make-up on and still look amazing. I generally look like I am morphing into a panda with my pale skin and dark under-eye circles.

Deliciously Ella Everyday:

In April, I found myself using this book a little more for work lunch inspo. I made the veggie Paella and I also made something else (but I can't remember what!). Both were absolutely delicious.

Essie Spring Nail Collection:

I have a lot of love for Essie Polishes and this month I have been loving their new Spring Collection. I have two shades: 'All the Wave' and 'On the Roadie' which are a beautiful blue and green.

This month I have been getting stuck right into Insta-stories. If you're not following me already, then you can find me over @ameyjaney

Girlboss (Netflix):

Like the majority of bloggers, I have been getting myself stuck into watching Girlboss on Netflix. I actually enjoyed quite a bit and may or may not have watched the entire series in a weekend...

April Glossybox:

The April Glossybox was actually a pretty good one. I liked pretty much all of the products in the box and for once, they are all practical.

Scrambled Egg/Chorizo:

This combo has been a bit of a go-to this month. I love scrambled egg but by adding a little bit of Chorizo, I love it that little bit more.

Life | Hello May...

Oh May, you have crept up on us a little too quickly.

This month I want to allow myself to have a little more chill time; I want to nail my nutrition and experiment more with my Make-up. I also want to get rid of that pile of non-important paperwork that has been sitting gathering dust as well as finish painting the doors that I started more than likely a year ago. In addition, I want to research new opportunities as well as clear out my laptop of photos that never made it to a blog post. Finally I want to finish watching Gilmour Girls on Netflix.

Life | This Week #081...

001) This week has been preeeetty busy to say the least. I was working on Monday so I didn't have the dreaded heading back to work feeling on Tuesday. I was pretty busy on Monday though, haha.

002) How good is Girlboss on Netflix? I am obsessed with it and have pretty much binge-watched it all this weekend. It's such an easy watch.

003) Fitness-wise, this week I managed to increase some of my weights in Body Pump just because i felt like it, haha. I also managed to successfully do bird pose in my parents back garden of all places.

004) I think my obsession with veggies is getting a little out of control - veggies with everything is pretty much my current motto for life.

005) This week I rediscovered one of my favourite lipsticks by Clinique (I don't have it with me so i can't remember the name). I always forget to have a rummage through my make-up instead on going with trusty faithfuls.

001) First of all, Happy Easter to you all. I've quite safely devoured my weight in mini eggs on the run up to Easter so I've been keeping things simple today with Hot Cross Buns. Although I do have some Salted Caramel Haagen-Dazs in the freezer...

002) On Friday, I decided that I needed to start finishing off odd jobs around the house. So I decided to tackle my Hallway and put up some prints that I had lying around. I really like it so much that I have a post coming up shortly on it.

003) Saturday saw me head along to North Hop for an evening of Gin, Cider, Beer & lots of yummy food. It was good but personally I think last year's event was much better but each to their own.

004) Before North Hop, I ended up having a good play with my make-up and realised that it's something that I enjoy but don't do half of as much as I would like to.  I think I would like to incorporate a bit more beauty into here as I love writing about it when I do.

005) Fitness-wise, this week  I managed to increase my chest track weight in Body Pump. I also managed to get my squat weight back to what it should be,

002) With the weather being as nice as it has been, I have been making any effort to be outside in the Sunshine. Today I headed down to a local market with local producers. I ended up buying some local granola and some local fresh eggs. Yummy!

003) Fitness-wise, I finally managed to achieve a bind in Body Balance. It has only taken me 2 years! In addition, this week was the first full week of the new Les Mills releases and my body is wrecked. These new releases are tough! So much so that I had an unplanned rest day on Friday which actually did me the world of good.

Life | 5 ways to take things slow...

You may have noticed recently that I have been all about self-care and taking some time out of my busy lifestyle by simply doing very little. With so much going on in our lives, it's becoming more and more difficult to remember to take some time out for ourselves.

Here are 5 ways that I like to take things slow:

Go for a walk:

Remember that line from Legally Blonde? 'Exercise gives you Endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't'. Well it is true. When the weather is nice, I love to take myself off for a walk to really appreciate the nice weather. I find even if it's just 20 minutes sitting on a bench watching the world go by, it really does the world of good.

Read a book:

Another thing I like to do is put my phone in another room, sit with a book and a coffee and just read. I find it both enjoyable and relaxing.

Pamper night:

What girl doesn't love a pamper evening? Sometimes I do the full works: nails, face mask, feet etc. Other times I may just apply a Face Mask depending on how lazy I am feeling. My favourite face masks tend to be those by Origins.

Go for dinner:

I love spending time with my friends and catching up. It's something that I probably don't do near enough due to commitments. However, a good catch-up over food is always a good idea.

I love to bake: all kinds of goodies. Sometimes I go for something super healthy, other times I go for the unhealthiest thing I can think of. Anyway regardless of what I actually make, I actually find baking very relaxing particularly if it is for no particular reason.

What do you do to take time out?

Life | This Week #078

001) This week has been confusing - I've been here, there and absolutely everywhere.

002) Speaking of which, this week I ended up dog-sitting my parents dog while they went away. Let's say he was a massive distraction when I was meant to be working. He is just too cute to resist!

003) Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. I feel like I have hit a bit of a wall. I'm just not eating as well as I should be. Someone just really needs to give me a massive shove. I think tonight I will put my macros into My Fitness Pal in advance as I feel that I am letting myself down if I don't. I've definitely been having too many treats since Christmas.

004) I really should remember what I order online. Yesterday I got caught in a torrential downpour and so I headed to Sainsburys to wait it out as I had only left the house in a hoodie. Halfway through drinking a latte, I opened the parcel I had just picked up - only to realise I had ordered a waterproof jacket. Idiot.

Reads | Thrive - Arianna Huffington...

When you are gripped to a book right from the word go, you know that it has to be good. And 'Thrive' by Arianna Huffington  is no exception.

In 'Thrive' Arianna discusses the challenges faced in modern society detaching from technology and work to have a good life balance. Drawing from both experience and Scientific research, Arianna shows us that by bringing small changes into our lives such as meditating for a few mins per day or by not answering work emails at all hours of the day, we can achieve a healthy life balance.

What I loved about this book is that it divided into 4 sections: well-being, wisdom, wonder and giving. My favourite section to read was definitely the well-being section as I could draw comparisons from my own life to what she was discussing. In addition, I really like the style in which she writes as well as the humour that she brings to the book which is mainly by personal anecdotes.

Overall, I would really recommend reading this book particularly if you feel that you need to re-evaluate your work/life balance.

Life | This Week #077...

001) First things first, who brought the Sunshine to the party? This weekend I have spent as much time as possible soaking up the sunshine as it's usually a case of blink-and-you-miss-it in Scotland. Yesterday I went for a lovely long dog walk with my friend along the beach and today I took myself off to one of the local parks beside to river to do some April content planning. I may have got a little burnt...

002) Last week I mentioned that I wanted to switch out one of my morning coffees for a herbal tea and that is exactly what I did. The first day I made the mistake of switching my first cup out. Rookie mistake - I was falling asleep at my desk by 9.30 am. The next day I kept the first one and changed the 2nd. Result.

003) This week has been a little about self-care. I really am a glutton for punishment so I decided that it would probably be a good idea to start taking care of myself a bit better. On Thursday I injured my calf once again in the same class as last week. Instead of pushing on and going to combat on Friday like I usually would, I decided to have a rest day instead which I think is doing it the world of good.

004) You know when you buy things but then forget about them for ages? That. On Friday I was off work so I actually had to get into something that wasn't work stuff, gym stuff or PJs. Looking for a jumper in my wardrobe, I stumbled across a vintage sweatshirt that I bought ages ago and never worn. Since Friday I haven't taken it off...

Life | Why I am learning to embrace Minimalism...

I am a clutter bug - I always have been (although not to hoarder/Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners standard). When I was younger, I used to revel going into town on a Saturday and spending pocket money on silly little things (In those days you could get a lot for your money). In addition, when I worked in retail, staff sales were pretty much impulsive buys and so were purchases made when I was a student. I really had no end to buying things.

It was the same for many years until one day I thought why. Why am I buying things that essentially sit and gather dust? Why am I spending part of my precious weekends cleaning and tidying away 'things' when what it comes down to is that I simply have too much stuff? Just why?

Right now I live in a one bedroom flat in the city centre with very little storage and I have done for 8 years. There is definitely no room to hide things; no room to be able to buy excessive amounts and certainly no room for clutter. When I read Marie Kondo's 'The life changing magic of tidying' (brilliant book if you're wondering), something in the book really resonated with me and it was simply if  you don't enjoy an item anymore then why do you still have it?

Reading that was a mini-realisation in itself: I simply have a lot of things that I no longer care for. Sure someone else might care for them but for me personally not so much. This is partly why I want to embrace minimalism: to get rid of the things that I no longer care for or find joy in. In addition, I always feel happier and more relaxed when I'm in an environment that is clean and tidy. I'm also not so likely to freak out over surprise visitors (particularly my parents who have keys and turn up unannounced and drop things off). Furthermore, let's face it: I am barely in my flat with work, gym and socialising so things are simply sitting and gathering dust.

Life | This Week #075...

001) This weekend has been consumed by Caramac Blondie making. Over the weekend, I tried 2 different basic Blondie recipes and the first turned out a bit meh! The 2nd was alright and will be appearing on the blog later on.

002) Generally this week has been one of those meh weeks. I don't know what it was but let's just say I've had much better weeks.

003) Has anyone been watching The Replacement on BBC? I am actually hooked on it. I am sad that this coming week will be the last episode but I am excited to see how it pans out. In addition, I've also been loving Broadchurch recently. Oh and Homeland...and Call the Midwife.

004) Speaking of programmes, I have just started watching 'My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' over on Netflix after hearing so much about it from my friends. It is actually really good and well worth a watch.

005) I think after speaking about taking a bit more time for myself, I seem to have started to do that this week. On Monday I came home late from the gym and for once did not switch on my laptop. Instead I got into my Mermaid blanket and watched TV (with some Social Media loving too of course). Also on Saturday, I bought Vogue for the first time in forever and actually sat and read it for a while. I only got up when I had to actually do something constructive (which was tidying if you're interested).

Monthly Favourites | February...

For me, February passed in a bit of a blur: all the weeks blended into one with a couple of 6 nations games thrown in for good measure. I reaffirmed my love for pamper sessions and pastel nails; got my hair done and also hit a few personal fitness goals.

This month I have been loving:

Capture your style - Aimee Song:

This book has been everywhere recently (along with a certain closet one). I spotted it on Amazon before Christmas and my parents kindly gifted me with it. The reason that I like it is jam-packed full of info and because I feel the need to up my Instagram game a little bit (it's @ameyjaney if you're wondering).

Pastel Nails:

Oh my pastel nails have been my new February obsession. In my eyes nothing says Spring quite like pastel nails. In particular, I have been in love with Essie Sweet Tart  and also Essie's classic Mint Candy Apple.

Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer:

I'm a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to base products - I have my firm favourites which I always religiously stick to. However, I also love to buy new products. In February I purchased Bourjois Radiance Concealer and I am absolutely in love. Coverage is pretty awesome and long-lasting. Full review coming soon.

Origins Renewal Serum:

It's a known fact that I love Origins. Usually the Ginzing range is my go-to range. One day I went to repurchase the moisturiser and there was none in stock. However, they did have a gift set which contained it and it was also this gift set which contained the Renewal Serum. Since I got it I have been using it most days as part of my daily skincare routine. It smells absolutely incredible and works really well.

Finally I have been obsessed with Instagram this month and in particular Insta stories. I'm slowly beginning to get the hang of insta stories.

Despite owning a shedload of beauty products, I always find that those products I enjoy using the most are those which are natural products.

Recently Sabai Soaps got in contact to see if I would like to trial one of their soaps. Being a lover of natural products, I agreed and was kindly sent the Green Seaweed Soap to trial.

So who are Sabai Soaps?

Sabai Soaps are a small family run business who specialise in providing  natural, organic and vegan friendly products. Their products are made in Thailand by local communities using local ingredients and packaged in recycled packaging. As Sabai believe in giving back to communities, 20% of the profits go back to charities which work within these local communities.

What did I think?

Well first things first, the smell of these products is incredible. I had barely managed to open the parcel when I was hit by a lovely, almost peppermint-y smell. In addition, the  packaging of these products is absolutely beautiful. It is definitely beautiful on the outside yes , but the real beauty is on the inside where you can still see what the packaging used to be - I think my one was previously a newspaper. Finally, the actual product is amazing to use and is SO gentle on the skin. Using this product definitely makes my showers that little bit better.
