Travel | York: Betty's Tearooms...

Having visited several traditional tearooms over the years, I can safely say that I have never visited one quite so eloquent as Betty's Tearoom in York.

Since it began in 1919 in Harrogate, Betty's have been fine purveyors of tea, coffee, cakes and all the goodness in between. Strangely enough, even though it is called Betty's no-one actually knows who Betty was as the creator of the company was Frederick Belmont. Was she an Aunt? A muse? Or someone completely different? It is something that will perhaps never be known.

Whilst in York, I actually visited Betty's twice as I couldn't get enough. The first time I had tea and a Fat Rascal (which is perhaps the best scone I have ever tasted) and the second time I had tea, cheesecake and also popped in to have a spot of lunch. It was so good!
