Monthly Favourites: April...

Once again, my monthly favourites seem  to feature mainly food...and I therefore apologise for my foodie habits! The month of April had us reverting back to Winter clothing with the presence of snow and general bad weather. April was also the month that I watched too much Netflix and invested in some new gym equipment (mainly an attractive yoga mat and some new lifting gloves).

Here is what I have been loving:

Blogosphere Magazine:

A magazine for bloggers by bloggers....what could be better than that? I love Blogosphere magazine for the interesting articles as well as introducing me to more bloggers. You can get your copy in W H Smith or here.

Schwarzkopf Detangling Spray:

My hair is pretty long and after a shower it has a tendency to tie itself in knots. Rather than destroy my hair, I have been using this to work wonders on it. It also smells amazing!

MyProtein Impact Whey Protein:

Being a regular at the gym (or more than likely part of the furniture), it is important for my body to have the correct amount of protein to repair muscle. This month I have really been enjoying My Protein Chocolate Mint Impact Whey Protein post-workout. It tastes just like a chocolate milkshake. I actually can't wait until it is finished so I can make another order from My Protein to try their other flavours!

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Hand Food:

This product formed part of a set that I received at Christmas so I'm not sure if it is available by itself. Product availability aside, this hand cream not only smells immense but works wonders on your hands.

Yushoi Snapea rice sticks:

Strangely enough, I stumbled across these on Tesco's website while searching for Sugasnap peas (I found them btw) and as someone who loves anything japanesy, I had to try them. Needless to say, I love them and I have now tried all 4 flavours available.

Fage Fruyo yoghurt:

My new favourite, but pricey, yoghurt. I absolutely adore these as they are so creamy but at over £1 per small pot, I genuinely don't buy that many at a time.

What have you been loving this month?

Brand Love: Liz Earle...

Liz Earle is one of those brands which falls into the category of 'Best of British'. With a range of skincare, haircare and make-up available, the quality and price range of these products makes them a hit with everyone from the old to the young.

To produce such high quality products, Liz Earle works closely with farmers and growers to use natural, sustainably sourced ingredients which will be beneficial for your skin. In addition, all products available are cruelty-free.

I was first introduced to Liz Earle mainly through other bloggers. I had heard so much about them and so when my local Boots got a revamp with new brands becoming available, I jumped at the chance to try Liz Earle out.

My inaugural purchase was the cult product Cleanse & Polish. This product is the one that I had heard the most hype about and let's say once I tried it, it didn't disappoint. I've actually now run out of this so I will need to purchase another pretty soon!

Have you tried Liz Earle before?

Cullen Harbour Cottage...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Cullen_Harbour_Cottage

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I am a frequent visitor to Cullen. My Dad is a local there and we are still lucky enough to have a house by the harbour which is available for holiday lets.

Over the past couple of years, our house has undergone major renovations to modernise it. We have extended the kitchen; knocked through the middle hall where the pantry was and opened up what was the 'best room' into a large living space. The old living room is now a dining room with space to enjoy meals. We have also turned the tiny cupboard-type loo into a wet room where it is perfect for taking off wet stuff after playing at the beach (FYI the shower is pretty awesome too)

So if you are looking for a relaxing break on the coast, set in a beautiful part of Scotland (where the ice-cream is 2nd to none), then have a look at our website. We still have availability for 2016.

Life: This Week #029...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_This_Week_29

001) This week my nutrition has been all over the place due to being away last weekend and not doing an online food shop. Note to self: always do an online food shop.

002) On Tuesday, I attended an event at Hotter with some other bloggers. This brand is truly something special and is suited to everyone. Keep your eyes peeled for more details on this event soon.

003) Everyone and their dog has been going on about Line of Duty on BBC 2 and I'm a sucker for getting pulled into watching things that other people rave on about. So....I started to watch it earlier today and season 1 is already finished.

004) This week, my new gloves that I ordered for Body Pump arrived and I have been trying them out. Let's just say that what I think about them isn't at all bad and I will do a full review soon.

The Sunday night checklist....

Image from Pinterest

The Sunday night fear is a real thing. If there is one night of the week that I can't sleep then it's a Sunday and if there is one morning I'm running late for work, it's a Monday.

So today, I thought I would share some of the ways that I prepare for the week ahead:

Clean up your emails/notifications:

One of my pet hates is having a ridiculous amount of unread emails (I reply to those that need a response during the week) or answer phone messages. So on a Sunday, I go through my inbox etc (remember to check junk) and delete anything that is not required.

Prepare your outfit:

One of the main reasons I run a little late in the morning (apart from hitting snooze)  is the fact that I have the inability to decided on an outfit. Simple solution: prepare your outfit the night before.

Update your diary:

My memory can be like a sieve sometimes and so I use a diary....but I have a bad habit of forgetting to update it. When I do remember, I quite like to update it on a Sunday so I can see what is happening for the week ahead.

Make a to-do list:

Similar to the above, I find that having a weekly to-do is essential to having an organised week. I am actually a bit of a to-do list nut and I have a to-do list for absolutely everything. I love the satisfaction of a completed list.

Have a pamper session:

I don't know what it is but I always feel completely relaxed and ready for the week ahead with a bit of a pamper session on a Sunday. I like to put on a face mask, paint my nails and toes and also give my hair a little bit of TLC. I don't have a bath as my flat is a little small but I do also  like a long shower.

Prepare your food:

If you can, prepare your food for the next day the night before. Whether that is a salad or a sandwich, having it ready to grab and go in the morning makes all the difference. Believe me!

Technology downtime:

Living in the world which is dominated by technology means that it can be hard to switch off. On a Sunday evening, I like to switch off my laptop/tv much earlier than usual and curl up in bed with a good novel. I find that by doing this, my mind is much more at rest and I sleep much better.

How do you combat the Sunday night fear?

Beauty: Browtician Tweezer review...

Tweezers are girls best friend. How else are we meant to get rid of unruly, stray hairs when we still have a week and a half until our next brow appointment?(FYI Benefit Brow bars are my favourite).

I'm going to hold my hands up and say that I am generally quite fussy when it comes to tweezers. I can't have just any pair and very rarely do I stray from my trusty La Vague tweezers...until now.

My Browtician tweezers were from a recent Glossybox (I can't remember which, sorry!) and what drew my attention to them originally  in the box was the design. The colours remind me of a little of those from the 'Day of the dead' festival.

Colours aside, the tweezers themselves are very light and springy which makes them fantastic for picking up stray hairs. In addition, compared to some other tweezer brands, they retail at a purse-friendly £7.99 at Superdrug.

Have you tried Browtician tweezers?

Life: This Week #028...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Food_Prep

001) This week I tried out the remainder of the new Les Mills releases - Body Combat & Sh'bam. Body Combat 67 is a good 'un...and quite possibly better than 66 (which was my favourite in the 2 years I have been doing it).

002) On Sunday, I prepped a whole load of food for the week ahead: Sweet Potato Tattie Scones, baked egg cups, Gingerbread energy balls (recipe coming soon) and Turkey Bolognaise. Usually I use Beef  for bolognaise but decided to try Turkey as it has a higher protein content.

003) Speaking of protein, I have once again become obsessed with MyProtein Impact Whey Protein for after a workout .I am currently using the Chocolate Mint flavour but once it is used up, I am going to be placing another order and trying out some new products. I also think I'm going to order a couple of generic flavours for baking and such.

004) Changing the subject, this week I have concocted in my head a high street beauty wishlist the size of a small house (no joke). I have not been on a beauty spree in over a year and there are some exciting products that I wish to try.

Beauty: Glossybox April 2016...

With time flying a bit too fast for my liking, my body is in constant need of a revive and a refresh. This month, thanks to April's Glossybox, it will be getting a little helping hand.

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Glossybox_April_16

Nothing annoys me more then waiting for Nail Varnish to dry. I'm so impatient that I usually end up smudging it. So having this product in this month's Glossybox is like a dream come true. I think it is one that I will like. Keep your eyes peeled for how I get on.

I'm going to be honest and say I never knew that Next did a make-up range. Perfume yes, Make-up no. Call myself a blogger...Anyway, in this month's box there is a chubby stick from Next. The shade that I received was Cherry Red which is perfect as I love bright lips right now.

Studio 10 Brow lifting perfecting liner:

Brow products are like an addiction to me - I'm always looking to try out brand new ones. This pencil is a similar concept to a couple others that I own so I'm intrigued to see how it weighs up against the others.

Swiss Smile Whitening toothpaste:

Now this is a new thing for Glossybox - toothpaste? I have been loyal to one brand of toothpaste for a while so I'm up for giving this a test to see what it is like. If not, I can revert to my trusty faithful.

The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil:

Anything that is by The Body Shop has to be good, right? I'm not usually a person for facial oils but with so many of them hitting the high street, it would be rude not to try this one out from The Body Shop.

Trend Report #004:The colour nude...

Nudes are one of those trends which you just can't shake off. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. With nudes suiting everyone and a fabulous alternative to black, they can add an instant touch of femininity to any outfit.

Below, I am sharing some of my current favourite nude High Street pieces.

Interiors: Bathroom transformation...

                 Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Old_Bathroom
Before

After

When I moved into my flat a number of years ago, one of the worst rooms was my bathroom. It clearly hadn't been updated in a number of years; it was a horrific blue (my fireplace in my living room was actually the same colour as the bathroom wall and light cord) and it was just....gross...even when I cleaned it.

Fast forward a couple of years, I decided that it was finally time for a change. I enlisted the help of a local company to carry out the renovations to something that was much more my taste. As the bathroom is pretty small, I decided that the bath had to be ripped out as it took up too much space and instead I opted to go for a larger shower across the back of the room. As much as a bath would be beneficial to me (to try out all of Lush's bath bombs of course...that's the only reason people have a bath, right?), it wasn't practical in regards to the size of the room. I also decided that the heater needed to be switched to a towel rail (again another much more practical option).

Colour:

My inspiration for the colour scheme in this room came simply from a jug I bought at Dunelm. I know I didn't want anything too bright or too dark as this room has no windows in it. I also wanted the colour to be something that would fit in with a vintage theme.

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Bathroom_Shelfie_basket

Accessories:

The shelf in the bathroom was actually something my parents bought at an auction many moons ago. As it was gathering dust at theirs, I swiped it (with their permission) and cleaned it up and applied a clear coat of varnish to it.

Copper accessories are one of my favourite recent interior trends - I just cannot get enough of them! The large basket with the towels in sitting on the toilet is from TK Maxx and it was a complete bargain when I bought it (clearance section). It is the perfect size to hold all of my towels. The two smaller copper baskets are both from H&M home (one of my favourite places for interiors) and at the moment they are remaining empty. The final copper piece that I have in my bathroom are the set of pots which are from Tiger.

In my bathroom, I also have a collection of glass objects. Most of these were either gifts or picked up in the most random places. The duck was a present from my parents and as I didn't know where to put it, into my bathroom it went - I actually like it in there.

Life: This Week #027...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Food_Story_Aberdeen

001) On Friday, I perhaps ate the best burrito that I have ever eaten at Food Story here in Aberdeen. I have an upcoming post planned so I can tell you more about it then :).

002) Today I decided that I would finally take on the triple class challenge at my gym (it's not an official thing but a number of regulars do the Saturday triple and they always ask when I'm doing it) and it was really good but I was absolutely starving by the time I came home. It was also the day that the new Les Mills releases were released. This morning I did Body Pump, Body Balance & Body Attack - all brilliant and challenging as usual.

003) This week, due to multiple near face plant attempts using the new mats at my gym for Body Balance, I purchased a yoga mat. I did post it on Instagram but in case you missed it, it is a pink Aztec design. I've used it a couple of times and I have not slipped once! Best money that I've spent.

004) My tastebuds seem to be changing - I normally love Sainsbury's Jam doughnuts but I had some fresh ones last week and well...they didn't taste good to me (and not in the off way). In addition, I have thoroughly been enjoying my Quark bowls....a lot! Naughty treats not tasting good and healthy treats tasting amazing...something is off with this sweet treat lover.

005) This week, I have also been attempting to get in a little yoga before work in the morning. I managed it on a couple of occasions. As I do a lot of classes through the week (can be up to 14 classes), I feel that having a little extra time set aside each day to stretch out (and improve my flexibility) will benefit me in the long run.

Blogging: Keeping Organised...

Teacups_and_Buttondrops_Blogging_Keeping_Organised

Working full-time and having a busy gym schedule means that sometimes my blog can get a little behind on content. However, since the beginning of this year, I have been actively trying to organise my blog in advance so there is always something new to read.

Monthly planner:

I find that having a monthly planner is key to keeping my blog organised. This little gem I picked up in TK Maxx at the beginning of the year. In the planner, there is a double page for each month with a section for notes at the side. I particularly like this layout as I can easily see what is being posted when and I can also see if there is a variety of content available.

Google Calender:

Sometimes when I have a little time to kill (like on my commute), I will type up a few blog posts. However, I never seem to have my monthly planner handy when I need it. Enter Google Calender. Google Calender is great as once content is finalised in my main planner, I can input it in there to refer to at any time I need to.

Block shooting photos:

Generally the only time that I have to shoot and edit photos for the blog is at the weekend. Even then, I don't have a huge amount of time to do it. So I find that block shooting and editing photos as far as I can in advance really helps.

Sticky Dots:

These dots are one of my favourite things to organise my blog with. Generally, I use them as a colour code system: red is for a post going live; light blue/dark blue is for photos and graphics being completed; yellow for Social Media and green is when everything is completed. It is such an easy method to work with and great for a visual person like myself.

Social Media:

Once a post has been completed in Blogger, I will schedule the social media to go with it. My weapon of choice for scheduling Social Media is Hootsuite. I don't 100% rely on scheduled Social Media as it does fall along the lines of being robotic. However, when you're as busy as I am, it sometimes is a godsend.

How do you keep your blog organised?

Eats: Homemade Trail mix...

Having a natural sweet tooth, I am drawn to anything that is not good for me. Scrolling through the internet looking for healthier options, I kept coming across trail mix time and time again. So what did I do? Made some of course.

Here is what I used:

100g Walnut pieces
250g Cashew Nuts
300g Peanuts
250g Currants
Pouch of M&Ms

Method:

001) Simply put all ingredients into a bowl and mix well.
002) Store in an airtight container. If stored properly, the mix will keep well for at least 2 weeks
although mine doesn't seem to last quite as long.

Life: This Week #026...

001) For someone that is currently meant to be cutting down on sweet, sugary snacks, I sure seem to have eaten a lot this week. All those Easter treats were just too much temptation for a sweet tooth like me. On Sunday, I had an epic pudding with half an Easter egg, fro-yo, mini marshmallows and some salted caramel spread. Yummy!

002) This week, I have had a brilliant week fitness-wise. I have managed to have a PB in Body Pump with my shoulder track weight and managed to maintain it throughout the week. I've also managed to have a few cheeky weight increases in other tracks too. Right now, I am definitely in my best form in Body Pump. In other fitness news, I had a fabulous dumbbell based abs class on Friday evening. I'm generally not one for dumbbells and much prefer weight plates but the instructor had designed a circuit that really tested us. Absolutely loved it!

003) Scrolling through Zanna Van Dijk Insta (girl crush right there!), I came across a Quark bowl that she had had previously. It was something different for breakfast, so I decided to give it a go. Well hello! Although the Quark was a little sour (some Maple Syrup fixed that issue), it was absolutely delicious with all the fresh fruit and seeds I had with it. Definitely one to add into my breakfast options.

004) Soap & Glory are well-known for their fabulous products and as part of a Christmas gift, I was given the hand food set. I have been using the Sugar Crush version recently and honestly, it smells so good that I could eat it. So, so good.

005) It is very rare that I will watch a program not on catch-up as I spend all day at work and the evening in the gym. Today, I have just finished watching 'The Night Manager' on BBC iplayer and it was incredible. Such a well-produced book adaptation. Tom Hiddleston & Hugh Laurie were outstanding too.

Currently Coveting #003...

I don't know what has happened recently but I seem to have developed a massive love for all things Topshop and judging by this list, I may have to restrain my bank account from emptying its contents. Help!
