Top coats on trial...

Top coats are pretty much an essential when it comes to a manicure. For me personally, it is very rare that I can get away without a top coat. I think there is perhaps one nail varnish that allows me to go sans top coat.

As I have been actively hunting for a top coat that keeps my nails looking their best, I have decided to put 5 high-street top coats to the test.

Nails Inc Caviar, Rimmel Nail Nurse, Barry M, Collection, Sally Hansen

The top coats on trial are:

Nail Inc Caviar Topcoat

To make the test fair,I painted 2 fingers (one on each hand): 1 finger which gets used a lot and 1 which doesn't. I also did not alter anything that I would usually do ie shower less.

Observation notes:

Day 1: Nail 2 on left hand (Collection) chipped after an hour.
Day 2: Both Nail 1 on left hand (Sally Hansen) and Nail 5 on right hand (Collection) chipped
Day 3: Nail 5 on left hand (Barry M) chipped and further chipping to previous chips
Day 4: Nail 3 on left hand (Nails Inc) slightly chipped
Day 5: More chipping on nail 3 on left hand. On right hand, slight chipping to nails 2 & 3 (Collection & Nails Inc)

Results:

After 5 days of testing, the results are detailed below in reverse order:

5) Collection
4) Sally Hansen
3) Barry M
2) Nails Inc
1) Rimmel

I have to admit that the winning nail varnish did really surprise me. Out of all of them, this was the only one which had no chipping whatsoever after 5 days. Impressive for a purse-friendly £4.49.

Project 10 pan: Round 1

I don't know about you but I am terrible at using products up.Is it because I am easily influenced by other blogs and I want to see what all the fuss is about or is it because I get bored? Answer is both.

To help me de-stash my products (and to use up half-empty pots), I have decided to share on here 10 products that I plan to use up. Once these are used up, then another 10 will become victim to my de-stashing/finishing off.

The products for round 1 are:

Benecos Day Cream
Botanics Soothing Eye make-up remover
Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter (repackaged)

GlossyBox: Superdrug turns 50!

Superdrug is one of the nation's favourite drugstores and they have been for 50 years. Yes,you heard me right: 50 years! To celebrate this special occasion, GlossyBox teamed up with Superdrug to bring us a delightfully themed box featuring some of the huge range of products that they stock.

Overall,I thought this box was a pretty good box and it wasn't because the majority of the products were full-sized. I liked the products. Although, they are products I can pick up instore, they are not the usual brands that I go for. For instance, Scholl is a brand that I would normally avoid completely as they deal with feet and I hate feet (my poor neglected feet...). Each of these products in this box has pushed me into trying something new. Would I ever own an orange lipstick if it hadn't been for this box? Probably not.

What did you think of this month's GlossyBox?

Travelling Beauty...

Travelling light is by no means easy....especially if you're a beauty blogger. You have to consider looks for day-time, night-time and even travel time. You also then need to consider taking any base products in darker shades as, let's face it, light shades on tanned skin look a bit silly!

Recently, I travelled to Portugal with my friends for a week of relaxation and I really did not want to take the equivalent of the kitchen sink in make-up with me. After much deliberation and consistent switching around, I managed to narrow it down to, what I would say, a reasonable sized collection:

Eyes:

Benefit They're Real mascara, MUA Undressed too palette, Soap & Glory Smoulder Kohl, Elf Mascara Primer, Rimmel Scandaleyes in Nude

Elf Mascara Primer
 Brows:
Maybelline Brow Drama in Dark Blond, Soap & Glory Arch de Triumph

Lips:

No7 BB lips in Ballerina, Revlon lip butters in Candy Apple & Pink Lemonade, MAC lovelorn, MAC mystical, Pure Papaya ointment

Pure Papaya ointment

Tools:

Real Techniques Travel brush trio, Real Techniques Blending Sponge, Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, Ecotools Eyebrow brush

Real Techniques Mini Travel Brush Trio

Base:

Benefit Boiing, Soap & Glory Trick and Treatment, Soap & Glory Kick ass concealer, Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream, Maybelline Matte Maker powder

Miscellaneous:
This Works Sleep Balm, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, Benefit Chacha tint, Benefit Posietint, Benefit Porefessional

Tips for travel-sized beauty:

001)Miniatures, miniatures, minatures! Miniatures are your best friend for travelling. Who needs to take a full-size product when a miniature version will do fine. I somehow have accumulated lots of fantastic Benefit miniatures.
002) Before you go, if you are taking make-up on as hand luggage, separate your liquids from non-liquids into two separate pouches/make-up bags. Once you are in the airport, all you will need to do is tip the liquid pouch into one of their clear bags. I did this as I was coming from my parents and it saved me a bit of time.
003) Take what you need, not what you think you need (This works for clothes too).
004) Double up on products. For example, the tints from Benefit also double up as lip products (I somehow forgot this fact)
005) Not really a tip, but look for products with SPF in them. I didn't realise until recently that the BB Cream I have been using for about a year has SPF 30 in it.Very useful.
