February Favourites

Why, hello end of February....how did you appear so soon? For me, February was a quick month - lots of things to do as well as lots of people to see. It was also the start of some positive things in my life. I am at this point in my life where I want change, I want a new direction. I want to be focused career-wise as I have been lost for so long. I don't want to flit between jobs: instead I want to climb as high as I can go. In a nutshell, February has been the month I have been inspired to take action and do something with my career.

Despite my slight tangent above, February was also the month that I tried a few new products, some of which have found their way into my February favourites.

Seche Debutant Nail Varnish:

Seche Debutant nail varnish

This nail varnish has been one of my favourites this month. Its ability to stay on your nails is incredible, not to mention the baby pink colour. I posted a full review of this product which you can find here.

Real Techniques Powder Brush:

Real Techniques Powder Brush

This brush is one of the fluffiest brushes I have ever used. The bristles are super soft and it feels amazing on your skin. I use this brush for powder application as it is perfect for that. Overall, I am a massive fan of Real Techniques brushes and I have quite a nice collection building up. I still don't own them all though....

Garnier Fresh Essentials Refreshing cleansing lotion:

Garnier Fresh Essentials Cleansing Lotion

I normally use Johnson's Cleansing lotion on my skin, but when my last bottle run out, I fancied a bit of a change and picked this up. I really like this as it is not only good at taking make-up off but it has the most amazing smell (and yes that is important to me :)).

Botanics Hydrating Night Cream:

Botanics Hydrating Night Cream

Like my cleansing lotion, my night cream also ran out and so I had to purchase a new one. I've not really read much about night creams online so I was a bit in the dark about which one to go for next (I was using Johnson's night cream before). However, I had heard some good things about Boots' Botanic range so I decided to pick up their night cream. I like this product as it is super moisturising and, like the cleansing lotion, has an amazing smell. Admittedly, I sometimes just smell the pot as it smells so good....

Amazon Kindle:

Amazon Kindle

Recently I have rekindled my love for my Kindle.  At the moment I am reading 'Life of Pi' which is amazing so far. I haven't seen the film, which I believe won several oscars the other night, but I will when it comes to DVD. I also have lined up to read: 'The Great Gatesby' and 'Les Miserables' as well as a few others. Any other kindle recommendations?

Products I've used up #3

I must admit that my favourite types of post to read are 'Products I've used up' or similar words to that effect. I think I enjoy them because I enjoy seeing what people are using on a regular basis. Personally, I enjoy writing them as a challenge to myself to use up what I already have as opposed to buying new items.

This post is the third one which I have written and this time I have split it up into sections.

Everyday essentials:

Yves Rocher Volumising Shampoo
Lush 'Snow Fairy'sample

Mitchum Deodorant X2
Charles Worthington 'Takeaway Sunshine' shampoo
The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit shower gel

Skincare essentials:

Johnson's Night Cream
Johnson's cleansing lotion

Glossy Box February 2013

I know, I know I'm a bit further behind than everyone else with this one. I have actually had this box for a couple of weeks but I haven't got around to posting it until now.

February's Glossy Box was, naturally, all about Valentine's Day.

Glossy Box February 2013

What was in the box:
Micabella mineral eyeshadow
Anatomicals 'You need a blooming shower' body cleanser
Sassoon Salon Professional Shine Spray
Mememe Fat Cat lengthening mascara
Miners Cosmetics lip colour
Bonus heart shaped lolly

What I thought of the box:
This has been one of my favourite boxes as of late. There is a good mix of products and the box is not one-way inclined ie all skincare. Generally, I love all the products in the box so it is difficult to pick my favourite but, by the hair of a whisker, I would say the lipstick wins as I have an unhealthy addiction to them. Also Miners is a brand which I haven't used since school, so I am particularly interested to see what they are like.

10 things this week #8

Last night's dinner at 210 Bistro - some kind of Butternut Squash lentil thing with cous cous

10 things:

001) I am going to the 2013 British Grand Prix at Silverstone in June. I am ever so slightly obsessed with F1 and I have been since I was very small. So I am pretty excited to be going back to Silverstone for the 2nd time. This time I am going with some of my friends and we are camping. I've actually not been camping since I was about 10.....this could prove to be interesting. Are any of you F1 fans? Are any of you heading to Silverstone?
002)On a recent night out, 2 bottles of vodka were bought from a club (yes, some places allow you to buy full bottles from them) and consumed with a group of friends.Surprisingly the day after, I felt fine...
003)Oatcakes dipped in Sweet Chilli sauce are my new lunch obsession.
004)Blogger events are really fun (more on that later in the week)
005)My local ASDA is pants at providing a decent online service. Since when was body lotion the same as deodorant?
006)I have rubbish plumbing in my flat. This time the sink is clogged and I've tried putting some sink cleaner down it and its not sorted it. I'm going to try a stronger sink cleaner tomorrow. I will not be defeated!
007)The gym is still forming a major part of my morning routine. I really enjoy it and the days that I go, I always manage to leave earlier for work once I come back.
008)I am officially old. I caught myself looking at a Lakeland catalogue earlier and seeing what was new in.
009)I seem to have the inability to paint my nails properly. I always seem to smudge them, I never used to be bad...
010)I spend too much time procrastinating.

NOTD: Seche Debutant

Personally, Seche is not a nail brand which I have heard much about. It wasn't until I received one in a Glossy Box that I became aware of them. However, since my first encounter, I have read a bit more about the brand themselves and realise they are, in nail varnish ranks, a decent/high end brand.

On Friday evening, my nails were looking a bit blah and in dire need of a new choice of nail varnish. After subjecting my nails to a bright pink colour before, I decided that this time to tone it down a bit and use Seche 'Debutant'.

Seche debutant

'Debutant' is a gorgeous baby pink with shimmer which runs all the way through it. Generally I think it is reminiscent of a princess, in particular Princess Peach from Mario (I like Mario). In my opinion it is the perfect baby pink. In fact on Saturday at brunch, one of the first things my friend said to me was 'I like your nail varnish, its pretty'.

Seche debutant

Now onto the really important stuff: just how well does this nail varnish perform?

I can safely say I was not disappointed with this product. As I am writing this post, the only damage is where I have picked at it due to stress. Yes, when I get stressed, I pick my nail varnish off. It is a bad habit. Unlike some of my other nail varnishes which have chipped within a couple of days, this one seems to have the ability to stay on regardless what I'm doing. I am impressed.

Seche is available online and retails for £9.95 for 14ml

Make-up of the moment #1

I have a make-up collection where I am beginning to run out of space. While browsing through my collection the other day, I rediscovered some items I had forgotten about. I have a little basket in which I keep the items that I use on a day-to-day basis and so the other day, I decided to switch it around a bit.

Here is what I am using this week:

Face:

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
Natural Collection Face Powder
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
Witch Concealer in Natural
Loreal Lumi Magique primer

Elf Baked Blush in 'Peachy Cheeky'

Elf blush in 'Gotta Glow' (used as a highlighter)

Eyes:

Elf eye primer
Elf mascara primer (I love this!)
Vivo Cosmetics Eyeshadow trio in 'Innocence'
Inika eyeliner in brown
Barry M eyeliner in white
Yves Rocher 'Sexy Pulp' mascara

What products have you rediscovered lately?

Holly Fulton AW13

Holly Fulton AW13

Holly Fulton is one of the designers which, over the past few seasons, I have taken time to look at her collection during Fashion Week. Generally, I admire her bold style and AW13 is really no exception to the rule.

Holly Fulton AW13

AW13 brings together a mixture of prints. True to Holly's style there is an emphasis on geometric with many of the prints being based on geometric shapes. There are also a some which aren't: a tiger and some squiggles (yes, I just used squiggles) amongst others.

Holly Fulton AW13

This collection is based on a few colours: red, black, grey, white and the occasional blue. Personally, I like a few colours in a collection as too many colours is distracting. These colours are autumnal colours;colours which well and truly make you want to think Autumn. They are also bold enough to cause a scene on their own. In effect any of these pieces could stop traffic.

Holly Fulton AW13

Overall, this is another gorgeous collection by Holly Fulton. I think, if I was rich enough and had a different job, then I would definitely be making a purchase on a piece or two. Lovely. Just lovely.

10 things this week #7

Image taken at Duthie Park by myself

Is Spring on its way? While I am typing this right now, there is some much welcome sunshine poking its head out. Also I saw some buds on some trees the other day. I hope this is the turn of things as I have had enough of this crappy weather. Ideally, I would like to be able to leave my hat, gloves & scarf at home (wishful thinking!) and bring out the sunglasses.

10 things:

001) Keeping on top of cleaning a flat that has previously been gutted is relatively easy.
002) 'This is 40' is a good film.
003) 'Hitchcock' is also a good film.
004) Seche 'Debutant' is such a pretty nail colour.
005) Saturday brunch with friends is always a good shout. I had the most wonderful panini but I forgot my camera which means I just have to go back again armed with my camera.
006) Bedsheets take no time to dry (maybe my small human sized washing pile will disappear this week...)
007) The new make-up range in Topshop will become a potential hazard to your bank account.
008) Had a visit from Cupid at work on Valentines Day. I'm surprised I managed to be found in my building. It certainly put a smile on my Thursday :).
009) Cheese Straws is the new chocolate. I am addicted to them this week.
010) I have itchy feet to go to Paris.

Darwin turns 3!

This post strays away from what I normally post, but considering it is Valentine's Day, I thought I would share some love of the fluffy kind.

As you may know, I have a little Chinese hamster called Darwin and as it happens, he turns 3 today!!

He is such a cheeky little boy who likes nothing better than to eat sunflower seeds, climb down sleeves, run fast on his wheel, dig in his sand bath and separate out his food. He also likes posing for the camera, climbing as high as he can go, making forts, watching what I'm doing and snuggling in my left elbow. He doesn't like loud noises, when I clean out his cage or when the sunflower seed supply is low (OK, I made that one up slightly). He's also not keen on going back into his cage after a play.

Finally, here's a Valentine kiss to everyone reading this:

NARS Orgasm Blush

NARS Orgasm

After 2 years, I finally gave into the urge and bought my first NARS product. Typically I bought a blusher as they are not only my favourite beauty item, but the NARS blushers are well-known for being amazing.

NARS do an amazing range of blushers - both cream and powder - in a wide variety of shades. This time I picked up a powder blush in the shade 'Orgasm'.

'Orgasm' is a gorgeous peachy-pink with some gold shimmer running through it. It is highly pigmented and it only needs a light hand to see results.

Have you picked up anything by NARS yet? Anything else I should try?

ELF Therapeutic Conditioning Balm

Lip balm is one of those products which people either have one or they have millions. I am one of the latter. I guess I just like trying out new ones ever so often instead of using what I have. This time was no exception except when I ordered these, it was to fill up a basket so it was over a certain price for free shipping or something along those lines.

ELF Therapeutic Conditioning Balm

What the product claims to do:

"Salvation for parched lips. This innovative balm coats lips with natural nutrients and skin soothers to condition even the most sensitive lips. Infused with Shea Butter and Vitamins A & E for long lasting protection."

What I thought of the product:
This is a really good conditioning product. I use this every evening after applying Lush 'Mint Julips lip scrub to my lips. Sometimes, if I use too much, I do find it a little greasy, which is why I tend to use it at night, but other than that I find that it does a pretty fine job of nourishing my lips. Not bad for a product which costs the same as a bottle of juice.

ELF Therapeutic Conditioning Balm is £1.50 and is available from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk

10 things this week #6

Floating Heads at Kelvingrove Museum

10 things:

001)'Burlesque' is an amazing film.I am not sure why it has taken me this long to watch it.
002)Waking up in an unfamiliar environment is confusing at first until your brain kicks in.
003)Being violated by needles for a blood test is not fun.
004)A new bra makes all the difference.
005)The new Biffy Clyro album is amazing! (Roll on 31st March!)
006)NARS blushes, although pretty, can get grubby extremely easily.
007)Going to the gym at 6.30 am before work feels pretty good.
008)Nights out with friends don't have to be full blown nights out - just a couple of drinks and good chat is all it takes (maybe some Monster Munch as well?)
009)Being ill is no fun.
010)David Attenborough will reduce you to tears for the second time in the Africa series when showing that baby elephant clip again in what I think was the final episode.

Repurchases #1

Witch Natural Concealer: This is a product which has been re-purchased several times. I use this every day, particularly on blemished areas as it is a concealer which contains Witch Hazel.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer: The Bloggers' favourite concealer. This is another product which I use every day. I normally use it under my eyes as well as any unsightly areas.

Soap & Glory's 'Hand Food': I mentioned this in a post earlier on this week and I have repurchased this a couple of times before my family & friends knew that I liked it.

Johnson's Cleansing Lotion: This product has been my go-to cleansing lotion for a long time as I feel that I can trust anything that Johnson's do. It is only really recently that I have opted to use another product.

Natural Collection Face Powder: I have been using this for going on 7 years as I remember using this in high school. Therefore, I can't say how many repurchases it has had, but it must be at least ten, maybe more. I have used other powders in the past, but this is the one I always come back to.

Mitchum Advanced Control Deodorant: With deodorants, I have sampled pretty much everything the market has to offer and I will go through phases of using different ones. However, this one is one that I have not strayed from for a while.

Yves Rocher Volumising Shampoo: This is another product which I have recently reviewed on my blog which you can find here. This is one that I have only started repurchasing as I loved the first bottle I used.

Elf Blush in 'Peachy Keen': I think that this is one of the few, if not the only, blush that I have ever hit pan on. Never mind making a repurchase of it.

Johnson's Baby Wipes: Baby wipes are just one of life's little essentials. They have a multitude of uses. I like to use one in the morning, after a shower, to remove any minute scraps of make-up that have been missed. I also use it if I slip up doing my make-up.

What are your repurchases?

ELF Haul...

I was naughty (again I know!) and I fell victim to the promotional code that ELF were running last week. I don't buy from ELF that often but ever so once in a while I will divulge and buy some items.

The first items that I picked up were some brushes. In a nutshell I love ELF 's studio brushes They are just as good as any higher range brushes and are soooo soft. This time I picked up a Kabuki brush (I don't own one), another smaller stipple brush, and an eyeshadow 'C' brush. From the essentials range, I picked up a brow wand.

The next items that I picked up were a couple of eyeshadows. Originally I was going to use both of these as bases before applying other eyeshadow, but looking at them, I think the cream one will be the only suitable contender for that use. However, I will still use the matte one, just in a different way.

I also picked up this bronzer.I don't own any bronzer at the moment, so I think this one would be a good place to start.

I already own one of these pencils in the shade 'Tea Rose' which I adore. Therefore, I decided to purchase another one but this time in the shade 'Coral'.

I couldn't let my lipstick obsession go unnoticed, could I? I already own a few of ELF's mineral lipsticks which I really like. This time I picked up 'Party Pink' which, as I forgot to photograph swatches, is much more of neutral, every day pink.

Finally I purchased some blushers. Both the HD Blush and the baked blushes are items which I have been wanting to try out for a while. I also picked up a normal blush from the studio range in 'Gotta Glow' which is perfect for highlighting. Surprisingly, it is really pigmented.

Did you take advantage of the promotional code running on Elf last week?If so, what did you get?

Parisian dreaming...

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8

Collar necklaces: If there is one thing I am really into at the moment, then it is collar necklaces. I can't get enough of them and seeing them all over the high street is just damage to my bank account waiting to happen. I already own a few, however I think 1,6 & 7 would also be great additions to my collection.

Grey Slouch top: I love this top purely for the fact it is soooo slouchy. Great for those days that you feel like dressing for comfort.

Duck egg jumper:  I adore the colour of this jumper. At present I don't own anything similar to this so I think it would be really nice in my wardrobe. It is not a colour that I normally go for either but I think that it is fun to add new colours into your wardrobe.

Skater skirt: I love skater skirts. I have one that I wear for work sometimes so I think one in another colour would be great.

Tote Bag: I am still on the hunt for a replacement bag as the one that I am currently using is losing the will to live. I don't necessarily need another bag as I have plenty but I am always on the lookout for 'the one'. Any recommendations let me know!

Paris vest: I am itching to go to Paris again. I have been a few times before, although the last time was about ten years ago. It is one of my favourite cities and I would like to be able to explore it a bit more. Anyway, enough of my future Parisian adventures, this top is probably another one which would be good for slouchy days as it looks pretty long.

January Favourites...

January was a blink-and-you-miss-it month. I honestly don't know where time went. It seems like only last week I was tucking into Christmas dinner and spending time with my family. Now it's February...erm...

Anyway, today I am posting a favourites post. I used to do these all the time but I seem to have got out of the routine of posting them. I'm not sure why I stopped as I do enjoy posting them. Hopefully I will be posting them a bit more frequently.

January Favourites

Lush 'Mint Julips' Lip Scrub:

Lush Mint Julips lip scrub

This product has been one of my Winter saviours. I have been using this every evening before I go to bed. It is great for getting rid of all the dry/chapped areas and leaving your lips smooth. It is a small pot and for the price (£5.25) it can seem a bit pricey but I can highly recommend it. I'm wondering why I didn't purchase it sooner.

Loreal Lumi Magique Primer:

Loreal Lumi magique primer

I posted about this product in my post about primers which you can find here .I am still really enjoying using it as it is lightweight and holds onto make-up really well.

Topshop 'Prime Time' Cream Blush:
Topshop Prime Time

This product is a bit of a little rediscovery. I have a ridiculous amount of blushers and I always forget which ones I have. I can't remember why I pulled this one out, but somehow it ended up in the little basket where I put my everyday products in and since then I have been using it constantly. It does look bright in the pan, but once on it is gorgeous!

Soap & Glory 'Hand Food':

Soap & Glory Hand Food

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love this product. I counted up how many I had in my flat the other day and I have five. Notably, I haven't bought any of them - they have all been gifts.
'Hand Food' is another one of my Winter Saviours. It is the best hand cream I have tried. It is moisturising and it sinks in beautifully leaving your hands feeling silky smooth. It also has a really lovely smell. Another product I cannot recommend enough.

Apple iPad:

Apple iPad

This was actually one of my Christmas gifts from my Parents. It is the new one (not the mini) and I just love it. I have been using it constantly for social media, blogging and also catching up on tv. Blogging-wise I will often type posts using blogger (ironically this one is being typed on my laptop) and then use my laptop to add in photos later. Generally I don't take it out of my flat as I walk everywhere and I can be clumsy and I'm scared that I will break it by dropping it or the wet weather will get in (It does have a cover before anyone asks). Love, love, love.
