Ahoy there....

Top - Internacionale
Ring - H&M (part of a set)
Necklace - Accessorize
Bracelet - Internacionale

1) This is the outfit which I wore to work yesterday. Simple but smart. I was looking for a new stripy top for a while and found this one at work. The top is fairly short, which is why it looks slightly weird. The shorts are my old faithfuls which have outdone themselves so far. Overall its a basic outfit that
2)I've spent the day cleaning, crossing off things on my to-do list which is such a good feeling, watching an AMAZING Hungarian Grand Prix - oh the drama - and blitzing through my laptop attempting to fix the commenting problem that I have on embedded comment boxes. I've still not solved that issue. Now I think i'm going to watch a few youtube videos and then snuggle up and watch 'Tangled'.

Hope you had a lovely weekend :)

Shoot Saturday 001

I thought I would introduce a new feature to Teacups named 'Shoot Saturday'. In my spare time, I do a lot of photography, so I figured that I would start showing some of it on here. It also is a challenge for me to come up with ideas for shoots to meet the challenge.

This week the star is my Chinese hamster Darwin who, despite being notoriously shy around people, actually adores the camera and will spend a good while posing.

I have so many of him from this shoot that it was really hard to narrow it down to 4. He really is such a poser....

What do you think of this new feature? Are there any themes that you feel you would like to see?

Peaches and Cream

Tunic - H&M
Cardi - H&M
Necklace - Accessorize
Rings - Internacionale and Primark

1) H&M you spoil me! I wandered into H&M yesterday while I was running some errands after work. Normally I have a wander round, admire pretty pieces and leave. However yesterday I found tunics in various pretty colours. These are from the basics range and three of them (peach, blue and black/ thin straps) are currently on special offer. I also bought the red as it will be perfect for the upcoming Autumn/Winter season. These tunics are a great length. Normally when I try them on, they seem to be on the short side but these are perfect. I really like basic items and I feel that they are underrated. I like combining them with cardis, jewellery and brogues - no two looks are the same!

2) I also wandered into Accessorize yesterday as well and picked up a few bits in the sale:

I love these necklaces and I think that the shorter ones will look cute combined with some longer length. What  do you think?

3) I saw the Moscow State Circus on Tuesday night. They were really impressive and flawless. There were a couple of wobbles from one girl, but to be fair she was on a tightrope. It was completely packed as well. When we arrived there was a huge queue for tickets and I'm not sure if everyone got in. I pre-booked mine to make sure we got tickets.

4) I also saw (finally!) Harry Potter on Wednesday night. Oh my it was amazing! I did wonder why Crabbe didn't make an appearance but then I remembered the actor got busted for pot and didn't return for the 7th one. Silly boy...

Anyway, I'm off to go and get changed for work. If I could go in this outfit I would but I doubt management would be happy. Have a great weekend and I will be back pretty soon xx

Sunday with a sniffle...

Sleepy little hamster/Spinach and Cheese Bake/A child's toy that hurts when you put your finger in it/
Did somebody order Chinese?/ German Grand Prix

Afternoon :). I'm currently in the middle of a constant battle between sneezing and coughing - if I'm not doing one, then I'm doing the other. Apart from that I've been to Sainsburys, scrubbed the flat and watched the German Grand Prix. It's unusual for me to be off at weekends, so my intentions since Friday has been to do as little as possible. On Friday evening, it was one of my close friends birthday/leaving night which a really fun night :). I wore my red shirt dress (same as my rust one) and tights and brogues. I don't have any outfit pictures as I didn't have time to do any as I didn't finish work till 8.15pm. Yesterday, we went to another of my friends for brunch pancakes, which were amazing. A day of watching tv whilst snuggled down in blankets quickly followed.

How has your weekend been?

Crack the shutters...

Top - Internacionale
Leggings - Internacionale
Necklace- New Look

1) I'm ill and after being poked and prodded by the Dr this morning,I'm in need of some cheering up. To make  myself feel better, I thought an outfit post was in order :)
I bought this top from my work about this time last year. It was in the massive odd section that we had sitting in the stockroom, so I spotted it while I was doing something in there. At the time I bought it, I remember Topshop were doing a vest with an owl print on it. I think I got it for a ridiculous price as it was at least a year old. To be honest, I hardly wear this top but after looking for something to throw on on Saturday, I found this and fell in love again.

2)I finally filmed a video for the blog yesterday. There's a couple of weird moments in it, but its ok and not bad for point and shoot quality. I'm not sure when it will be posted, but hopefully in the next couple of days.

3)I'm off to book tickets for the Moscow State circus for next week. I've not been to a circus since I was about 5 years old, so I'm quite excited!

The items that time forgot...

My parents have just returned from 2 weeks in our house in Cullen. While they were up there, they came across these little treasures that used to belong to my Granny:

Part of a tea set - I have 4 cups, 4 saucers and two larger plates

Icing Duster/Sugar thing

Selection of old cookbooks

An old bookmark which was found inside a recipe book. For you eagle-eyed people there
you may spot 'Glee' which was washing powder

My Granny was a women of all trades - played the piano and organ, an amazing cook and also a fantastic knitter - and I'm hoping that I'll be able to at least produce something worthwhile from the cookbooks that I have acquired from her. I love that the cookbooks are a mixture of local women groups as well as traditional recipes.

I can't wait to get started!

In other news: I'm planning on doing a short video very soon. I was going to do it yesterday, then my camera decided to die and today was spent at work. Fingers crossed I should get it filmed Tuesday. I'm actually quite excited to venture into videos :).

Sunday Spotlight: Tights Please

As a person who wears tights on a daily basis, I'm in constant need to switch things around a bit. I normally buy my tights from Primark and admittedly it can get very boring buying the same items. Whilst browsing the internet around a week ago, I stumbled upon Tights Please .

Opening the website, I was greeted with a fantastic range of options - every possible style and colour, not to mention the great range of other products as well. They also offer a fantastic shipping rate - £1.95 for  normal delivery or you can pay £3.50 and you receive free delivery with any orders placed in the next 12 months. Both great within my eyes.

After browsing the website, there are a few firm favourites which I wish to share with you:

Jonathan Aston Lace Shorts £15:

Image from Tights Please

I really love these shorts. They are cute, girlie and very versatile. They would look great under skirts, dresses or even shorts. Overall, a great piece that is perfect for adding the finishing touch to an outfit.

Jonathan Aston Feathered Rumi - £8:

Image from Tights Please

This is another item which I really like. These ankle socks are very girlie and would look great styled with some brogues or even some sandals. I know exactly which one of my dresses would look great with them.

TP Thermal Leggings - £12:

Image from Tights Please

I know that it currently is July and the middle of 'Summer' but I cannot help but prepare for Winter. It gets very cold in my neck of the woods (Aberdeen) and layers upon layers do not cut it sometimes. I quite often wear leggings under things to keep me warm - I've been known to put them below PJs. Therefore, when I stumbled across these leggings, I fell in love for the reason that they are thermal! They will be a great all-purpose leggings and sadly, my trusty Internacionale ones are no longer cutting it so I'm on the legging hunt.

Tights Please is a brilliant website, with a wide range of options. I'm really looking forward to placing an order with them in the near future.

Tights Please is here - what are you waiting for?

The sun has got his hat on...

Cardigan - Vintage
Vest - Primark
Shorts - Internacionale
Necklace - Internacionale

1) This is what I wore today for work. Notably, I only wore the cardi on the way to work as the shop is far too hot for layers. The cardi is one of my newer items, which was purchased in a vintage shop in London - Beyond Retro, as I seem to remember. Its a perfect addition to my wardrobe and, despite only having it a few weeks, I have worn it so much. The shorts are another favourite. They are much longer than they appear, I'm just wearing a rather long vest with the outfit. The necklace is not seen very well, but it is half a bird cage with two pearls, and cost me the delightful sum of 25p.

2) I really need to do something with my hair.... it is in serious need of some TLC. Actually to be fair, I had just taken it down after having it tied up for 5 hours. I really fancy something slightly different, although at the moment, I want to keep it long for the wedding in September.

3) The weather here has been absolutely stunning today. I had a plan of going to the gym after work, but it didn't materialize as I decided to make the most of the nice weather by sitting in the garden and reading. Its not often that the weather is gorgeous in Aberdeen.

Anyhow, I'm off to have a bath (yes a bath!) with a lush bathbomb and then apply for some jobs. That is how exciting my life has become :).

PS: A long overdue London post coming soon.

Dress - Internacionale
Necklace - Internacionale
Rings- Primark

1) First things first - ignore the crumpling around the middle, I was rushing this morning - It got fixed it at work! Its not often that I post one of my work uniform, as despite working in a clothes shop, I can never afford to buy anything for myself as bills and things take over. This dress came in yesterday and it was love at first sight. It also comes in a deep red as well, which I also purchased. We're starting to get the beginnings of the autumn trends right now and there's a lovely mix of rust, teal and reds coming through. Ultimately, the colour is what drew me to the dress  as I love the rich tone. The length is decent as well. The only thing that annoys me is that its sheer which means having to put clothes on underneath - which is a nightmare if you work in my store as its so hot in there!

2) I'm really enjoying posting a lot more regularly now. It allows me to relax after work. Although, it does seem that I'm writing into the ether sometimes which brings me to my next point. I have a problem commenting on any blog - as much as I love commenting on blogs, my computer doesn't let me do anything. Its really annoying, as I quite often type a comment and then forget I can't post it. Any ideas/solutions? I'm tearing my hair out not being able to post comments on blogs.

3)I think i'm addicted to Sainbury's cookies. They have an offer on at the moment on their 'Taste the difference' ones and they are just yummy.

NB: I meant to post this before work but a combination of me messing around and going 'Oh crap, look at the rain (which was torrential) 'meant it never materialised.

A little birdy told me...

Cardi - H&M
Vest - H&M
Leggings - Internacionale
Necklace - Internacionale
Owl Ring - Accessorise
Bird Ring - Primark

1) I decided to do an outfit post today for two reasons. One: I do not do enough of them. Two: I actually changed into something other than pyjamas after work.
The cardi is currently one of my wardrobe favourites. Its from H&M a while ago, after I spotted it on Laura from Big City Dreams . I opted to buy the cardi in a bigger size, as I love cardis that are oversized/grandad style. I love this cardi for two reasons: the length and also the stripes.
The vest is another of my favourites. Like the cardi, it is from H&M from the basics range. H&M actually carry a good basics range. Only a few short hours ago, I was eyeing up the tunic style dresses on Sailboat .

2) I finally got around to buying Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt1 on DVD. I wasn't going to, but then Dobby persuaded me. I want to watch it tonight, but when I saw it at the cinema, I got a huge fright when the snake jumped out.I'm petrified of snakes...

3) I've just finished reading 'Flesh House' by Stuart MacBride. I loved it. If you like crime fiction with a touch of gore, then this is for you. Its set in Aberdeen, which is probably why I love it as I know all the areas as well  as little things like the roundabout that sits at the bottom of Anderson Drive. The writer mentioned the take-away which is 2 mins from my flat :). I think I'm going to start another book tonight :).

Some swatches:

Goal update

If you saw my posts here and here then you would have seen that I had set some goals for 2011. This is just a quick update of how I'm doing:

Get up earlier:

This I have managed to achieve. I now get up when my alarm goes off and I feel much better for it. I'm not sure if its a combination of summer and less hours at work or what, but I have managed it :)

Recently, my gym mojo has been lacking. However, after yesterday's 5K race for life, I feel much more motivated to get fit and I'm going to attempt to go a couple of times a week again :)

Find a new job:
More recently this goal has become more essential than ever. I can't survive on the hours that I'm being given at work and I need to be doing something else. To help achieve this, I have been job hunting every night and applying for suitable ones.
More creative output:
I've not done anything remotely creative recently due to other events in my life. However, I have some ideas which I aim to put into practice soonish.

Keep posting and improving 'Teacups and Buttondrops':

I have posted much more recently and I feel that the content that I'm posting now is more 'me'. I recently had a discussion with a friend about blogging and how I don't blog for the sake of blogging, I blog as I have something to say. There is a difference between the two. I have adjusted the layout recently and I've still got some work to do (especially with tags....eeep!)

Become more domesticated:
This is another goal which, although is ongoing, at this present time has been achieved. I feel much happier in a clean flat and I like not having to worry if a friend comes over.

Race for Life 5K

If you saw my excited tweets last night/this morning, you may have gathered that I was doing Race for Life today. Race for Life, for those who don't know, is a race for women where you can run,jog or walk and raise money for Cancer Research UK. I opted to walk, as I don't run anywhere - not even for a bus. I took part with both my Mum and my friend, Heather.

The day began pretty early and Aberdeen had decided, for once, to bless us with some gorgeous sunshine.  Nice weather is such a rarity in this part of Scotland - normally its wind/rain/hail/anything nasty the weatherman likes to throw at us. Weather aside, after meeting up at my flat, we took a short drive down to the beach, which was the venue for the event.

Upon arriving, it was a sea of pink. I think at this event, we were told that there was over 4000 women taking part - all shapes and sizes, kids, even some dogs. There was also a lot of people in  fancy dress - including a couple of people in 'morph suits'.

First things first, we had to attach our numbers and things:

Our little supporter (Alfie) doing his best Pirate impression:

We took part in the warm-up and then we were off:

Look at how many walkers were behind us (and we were in the middle of them!):

My sign on my back, and my medal:

We managed to complete the course in 53 minutes, which i'm really pleased with. I thoroughly enjoyed it  as the atmosphere was amazing - every single person had a reason to be there and every single person put so much effort into fundraising. If you've ever thought about doing Race for Life, 2012 could be the year for you :)

Finally, despite not taking part in the race, this was Alfie  after returning to my flat:

Completely zonked.
