Scrabbled...

Today is another outfit post from me. To be honest, I enjoy doing them but due to lack of light I currently have to restrict them to when i'm off from work. Anyway, here is today's offering:

Waterfall Jacket - Internacionale
Top - Internacionale
Jeans - Zara

The scrabble t-shirt was a purchase from Internacionale, which I believe only came into stores on Friday (and have almost sold out!). It retails at £12.99 which isn't too bad. The top is really floaty - I didn't realise this until I had it on today (should maybe try things on before...). which in turn makes me look a lot bigger than I actually am. The top is also quite see-through so I would recommend wearing another top underneath.

I also teamed the top with a waterfall jacket that Internacionale currently have in stock. This jacket retails at £21.99 and comes in a variety of colours, namely black, cream, grey and a fawny pink.

I apologise for the photo. I cut off my face due to the fact I was pulling the most ridiculous face known to man at the time.It also happens that this was the only decent shot I took.

Finally, the other week I mentioned on twitter (@ameyjaney) about Darwin nibbling my blackberry. So here is the evidential proof and at this point in time he actually had hold of the roller bit (I have a curve ~ 2 years old).

Wednesday Wishes

Untitled
All dresses - New Look

I must admit that browsing the interweb for smart office clothes for this week's Wednesday Wishes proved to be a bit of a challenge. Being someone who has never worked in an office and may well be soon (if all goes to plan :)) it was hard to find something that was smart enough. Ideally, I prefer to wear dresses with opaque tights, but a lot of the dresses were really unsuitable. Also black, although smart, is a bit boring. Surprisingly, all this week's finds came from New Look (actually, I lie - one was from Miss Selfridge but I had problems getting a pic of it for one reason or another so the 5 above are New Look) as its not somewhere where I would instantly think of for work-wear.

What do you think of the choices above? Also, are smart shorts suitable for work (as long as they're a decent length)?

In other news, I currently have wee Darwin out in his playpen and my mum managed to go to her very first football game with my dad (a local one, but not bad for someone that detests football so much....)

Review: S&G Hair Supply

Since my hair is not in as good condition as I would like to be, I went shopping for a suitable hair mask which I could apply once a week. I'm a massive fan of Soap and Glory  and was happy to see that they carried 'Hair Supply' in their range. I grabbed a bottle and toodled off to the counter to pay.

At home, I read the instructions and it stated that you could either use daily or once a week for a more intensive treatment. My hair, being as bad as it is, meant I went for the once-a-week option.

The first thing that strikes you when you open the bottle is the smell. As usual, Soap and Glory have done it again. It smells fabulous. After applying the mask, I left it on for around 5 minutes to let it do its magic. The end result is gorgeous smelling, silky hair.

Overall, I really love this mask. I've used it a few times and I am really impressed with it. I think it is definitely worth the £7 you pay and if used once-a-week, it will last a long time.

Golden Globes - Glee Style

As many of you probably know, last night was the Golden Globes. A lot of places will be filled with who wore what, but to be honest, there is only one group of people that I'm interested in - the cast of Glee. Glee actually did really well at the Golden Globes with Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel) picking up 'Best Performance by an actor in a supporting role', Jane Lynch (Sue Sylvester - Oh how I love thee!) picking up 'Best Performance by an actress in a supporting role' and the cast and crew picking up 'Best TV series'. Whoop!

Anyway, onto the outfits:

Firstly, Lea Michele (Rachel) looks gorgeous in this Oscar de la Renta dress. I love the colour (which looks great on Lea) and the one shoulder detail. I also adore the ruffling which transpires from the left shoulder to the right-hand side and finally to the bottom.

Next up is Dianna Agron  (Quinn) in a strapless J. Mendel dress. First of all, I love the simplicity - simple designs always sit well with me as they are easily accessorised. I also adore the colour - nude tones are a current favourite with me. I  like the overall styling of this outfit (including hair) which gives off a classic hollywood vibe.

Amber Riley (Mercedes) is possibly one of my favourite actresses in this show. I just love everything about her. She looks stunning in this Oliver Tolentino dress with train detail at the back. The dress shows off her figure perfectly (I love Amber's figure). The belt detail is perfect - providing detail and breaking up what would've been a fairly plain dress. I love the one-shouldered detail as well.

Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) looks gorgeous in this dress by Rebecca Taylor. Firstly, I love the colour - blue items are among my favourites. Secondly, I love the detail. The ruffling on the bottom is absolutely gorgeous. It works really well with the simple bodice. I also like the belted detail which provides interest as well.

Finally, Naya Rivera (Santana) looks gorgeous in this dress by Douglas Hannant. I love the floral detail around the bust, which draws your eyes in, and the side-skimming/bodycon shape of the dress. I also adore the colour (no surprise, it is nude :)).

Now you've seen the girls, here are some of the guys:

Matthew Morrison (Mr Shue) - Can someone clarify for me, why high schools do not employ attractive teachers? My teachers were either over 60 or just unattractive....

Kevin McHale (Artie) - I adore this jacket. It stands out from the rest of the suit jackets and makes a statement (I prefer men in full kilt attire..ssssshhh! [Well, I am Scottish]). It also seems to remind me of Kevin's character a wee bit.

Mark Salling (Puck) - Simply, because it's Puck. I actually had a Puck moment today at the gym - a guy next  to me on the bikes had a 'Puck cut' which I kept looking at (not a good idea in a gym, believe me!)

Finally I wanted to show this group photo of the Glee girls:

Is it me or is there colour co-ordination going on with the dresses?

I'm off to prepare myself for the Britney episode which will be on shortly....boost!!

Where the wild things are...

Shorts - New Look
T-shirt - Primark (Basics)
Cardi - Internacionale
Tights - Primark
Necklace - Accessorise
Ring - Primark

I had a nice Sunday off of work today, so I decided to debut my new floral shorts on a trip to Sainsburys to buy brownie mix. The shorts were a sale purchase which for £4, I couldn't resist buying. Despite being in the middle of January, Aberdeen was actually pretty warm - a perfect time for this short debut don't you think?

Apart from making brownies, being on twitter (@ameyjaney if you're interested) and watching Gossip Girl, I've actually not done too much today. I'm going through a deep-cleaning phase of my flat but couldn't be bothered to do any today. Anyway, the brownies were calling :).
What do you think of my OOTD posts? Should I do them more often?

Off to the gym now :)

Return of the blogger...

As you may have noticed, I've not manage to post as much the last week or so. Unfortunately, I lost my Syrian hamster, Spud, to the tumor he had. He was fine and then he deterioated quite rapidly and so I decided to go for the best course of action. He was a quirky little thing, who always had to be the centre of attention and enjoyed raiding the sunflower seed pot when I wasn't looking. You could always tell when he had raided it as his pouches were full to bursting with seeds. I only had him for about 10 months as he was a rescue (found in a potato sack of all things!) but during that time I had him, I was introduced to a very strong-willed hamster, with a heart of gold.

A future advertisement for Canon?

In blog-related issues, I have a few posts planned for here, along with a layout change. There actually seems to be so many people switching layouts and also switching to their own domain names. I've noticed it with a lot of the blogs I follow....Right now, I'm going to take a shower and then hopefully take some pictures for an outfit post and then maybe a wee trip to sainsburys :)

Recent buys.....is that an outfit post I spy?

In the last couple of days, I've come close to spending what money was meant to last me till the end of the month in the sales. I went Charity shop shopping one day and then popped into town the next day as well to meet another friend :).

So here is what I managed to buy:
Cushion - Charity Shop - £1

Animal Candles - Rabbit, Owl & Squirrel - £2

Blusher - The Body Shop - £3

Scarf - Accessorize - £8 (Vouchers)

Swallow necklace - Accessorize - £4ish (Vouchers)

Owl Ring - Accessorize - £6 (Vouchers)

Owl tunic - £4.55 - Charity Shop

Floral Dress - £4 - Charity Shop

Cardi - 99p - Charity Shop

Mardi (Man-cardi) - £4 ish - Charity Shop

Another Man-cardi - 99p - Charity Shop

I also did buy a pair of floral shorts from New Look, but they didn't photograph too well as my camera kept going aaaaahhhh too much pattern....

Very surprisingly, I managed to do an outfit post. I'm not 100% happy with the pic, but I guess practice makes  perfect :). So here is yesterday's OOTD:

Scarf - Accessorize
Top - Internacionale
Mardi (Man-cardi) - Charity Shop [it does close - just not the way that I'm standing]
Jeans - Zara
Ring - Internacionale (Apologies for the chipped nail varnish - Barry M- I got lazy)

Right, I'm off to bed now as going to attempt to get up early for work tomorrow - 6am on a Saturday anyone?

2011 goals

I would love to say that I make New Year's resolutions and stick to them. Unfortunately, I do not. This is the reason why I'm posting them here; I want to be able to reflect on them next year and say 'Yeah, I achieved that one' or 'Ok, must try harder next time'. It is hard evidence that I made these resolutions.

Get up earlier:
I am absolutely useless at getting up in the morning. I could win an award for the 'ultimate alarm snooze button presser' - I'm actually that useless. It's a miracle that I am hardly ever late for work with the time I leave myself to get ready and get out the door.

Gym:
I'm currently a member of the gym and I used to go quite often. I've not been for about two months and I feel bad. I'm going to make an attempt to go at least 2-3 times a week.

Find a new job:
I have been in my present retail job for 6 years. 6 years is a long time and if I'm honest, there is nothing left for me - i'm bored - also there is no chance of a promotion or even a better contract. I love the staff and I enjoy certain aspects of the job, but I feel that it is time for me to leave that chapter of my life behind and move onto the future.

More creative output:
I'm naturally a creative person and two of my favourite hobbies are Jewellery making and Photography. I also love cooking/baking. I feel that recently I haven't been creative as I perhaps would have liked to be so I want to try and do more creative projects :). I also really want to learn how to knit and crochet properly.

Keep posting and improving 'Teacups and Buttondrops':
I've been actively reading blogs for well over a year, but I didn't start mine until September, mainly because I'm a perfectionist (I'm a Virgo, does that figure?) and I was being awkward about the layout and such. I love blogging so much: I love writing posts, reading comments, commenting on other blogs and amongst other things I enjoy tweeting fellow bloggers ( @ameyjaney for anyone that wishes to add me on twitter). I have a few new posts planned already and I am already planning a slight change to the layout.

Become more domesticated:
If you know me well, then you will know that I have an 'organised chaos' approach to things  - especially my flat. I know where things are, but no-one else does. 2011 is hopefully the year that I will leave my 'organised chaos' behind and move on.

Festive update aka I'm back

Hello there! I'm back from spending a wonderful festive period with my loved ones and my friends. I ate too much, laughed so hard that my sides hurt, received some wonderful presents, drank more than I usually do and met my baby cousin for the first time. I spent New Year's Eve with my close friends, which was a wonderful evening, complete with fireworks :) and some yummy baking. I also cooked a New Year's dinner for my parents and surprised a certain dog when I went to the kennels to pick him up after our holiday to England.

Here's a selection of the gifts I received on Christmas day:

Soap and Glory tote:
I love this so much :). There is actually a story to this: I phoned my mum up randomly whilst Christmas shopping - I think it's when Boots had it on special offer - and dropped  a 'hint' to her (and had a good chat as well :)). Unknown to me, my mum had been in Boots the previous day, saw it and was undecided if to get me it or not until her friend persuaded her otherwise. So while I was on the phone to my mum 'dropping hints', the tote was sitting beside her all along :).

Dorothy Brooch:
I love anything that is related to 'The Wizard of Oz' and I was pleasantly surprised to receive this little beauty. I never know how to wear brooches, which may give me a challenge for 2011.

Selection of DVDs and books:
I have a ridiculous amount of DVDs and I have more to add from Christmas. The DVDs in this photo are: 'The September Issue' (documentary about American Vogue - very interesting), 'Coco before Chanel' - a film I wanted to see at the cinema but never got around to seeing it and 'Beauty and the Beast'. I'm a massive Disney girl at heart and I'm building up my collection nicely. I've heard some mutterings that next year's Christmas Disney  DVD is going to be 'The Lion King'- my favourite Disney film EVER! I also received a few other DVDs as well - namely 'Gossip Girl: Season 3' and 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince'.

The books that are in the photo are : 'Style Diaries' which features the wonderful Carrie from Wish wish wish and Gok Wan's autobiography (which is really hard to put down!). I have met Gok Wan before and attempted to run away from him when he tried to blow a raspberry on my stomach during filming for HTLGN. In hindsight, it's hilarious but they keep repeating that episode so its been shown about 4 times (even got to GMTV :)).

Diana F+ Camera:
I am an avid photographer and I also collect cameras. I had my eye on the lomography ones in Urban Outfitters for a while and I was surprised to receive this for Christmas. It has a gorgeous book with it along with some odds and ends. Oh, I forgot to mention, this one glows in the dark :).

Diana original camera:
Now you may be wondering why I got a 2nd Diana Camera for Christmas. This one is an original (from the 1st time around before Urban Outfitters etc) that my mum bought me as I love old cameras. This one even came with the original instructions :)
