The Friday Five - Xmas edition

This week's Friday Five is a special Christmas edition. Here is what rocks my world at Christmas:

Visiting Family:

I love visiting family who I have not seen for ages (normally once a year)

I also love giving presents. I love the look of surprise and general happiness on their faces when they open them :)

Christmas Food:

Nothing says Christmas like Christmas food - has to be a proper roast complete with 'Pigs in blankets'. Unusually, I don't like any Christmas dessert apart from Yule log (but then again that is basically a chocolate swiss roll!).

Christmas Films:

I love watching Christmas films. Anything that suggests Christmas is a hit with me. One of my favourites is 'Miracle on 34th Street'

All Images taken from google.

Working in retail means that Christmas Day is one of two days a year that the shop is actually shut....pure bliss! Although, a customer asked me the other day if we were open on Christmas Day.....confused? So am I....

I hope that you have enjoyed this mini Christmas edition and also that Santa is very good to you as well on Christmas Day :). I'm not sure when normal blogging will resume, but look out for a few posts as I have internet here :).

Merry Christmas :)

Monday Summary

I'm sure I posted 'Friday Favourites' - clearly not!!

I've been so busy the past few days with work and attempting to finish my Xmas shopping in time, that I've not even switched on the computer. It was a good feeling, but not so when having 100+ blog posts to catch up on this evening (Just finished now :)). Work is just tiring - who wants to be working till 9.30pm at night? Its retail (and not even in a shopping centre!) - why would you go out until that time at night? Working late has also meant I had to cancel some Xmas fun plans I had :(.

As probably everyone knows in the UK - the snow is back :(. I'm just crossing/praying/wishing that I get down to England on Thursday....

So onto Monday Summary:

1) The Holiday - watched this whilst having a 'Snow Day' (basically couldn't be bothered getting dressed so opted for a snow day.
2) Banana Skids - Just loved the name of this sweet (tasty too!)
3) Cupcakes - I made the blogger's standard treat for the first time - absolutely yummy!
4) Lunchbox - part of my early secret santa pressie from my friend. I'm so-in-love with it, its unreal :)
5) Chocolate mini yule log - about the only xmasy thing present in my flat....

Has anyone seen the 'Dancing on Ice' 2011 line-up? I'm sure, practically 80% of the professional skaters are new....Thoughts?

Oh, posts may be a bit sporadic the next couple of weeks for festive reasons. I'll attempt a couple when I'm down in England, but can't promise much...

NB: I'm on twitter @ameyjaney to follow :)

Primark SS11

With the Autumn/Winter collection well underway, Primark have released campaign shots for their upcoming Spring/Summer collection. Looking through the collection, I can see that there are some common influences, notably the 70's (Flared,wide-legged trousers anyone?). However,  there seems to be a bit of something for everyone there - from leather shorts to gorgeous prom dresses - and with Primark prices, what's not to love?

So, without further ado, here are my favourites:

I love, love, love this dress. I like the length (although as I'm tall, it will probably be shorter on me than on the model!). The colour is one of my current favourites as well. I also like the versatility of the dress - it can be worn casually during the day,but add heels and some different accessories and you have a perfect outfit for a night out with the girls. I like pieces that can switch between day and night effortlessly.

This is another one of my favourites. I originally thought that this was two separate pieces. It's actually an all-in-one. I don't normally suit all-in-ones as I have a weird body shape, however, I would be keen to try this one on when it comes into stores. The dress itself, is made of Chiffon and is also in my current favourite colour (yay!). I like the length of this garment as well, and it would look great dressed up for evening or even dressed down for during the day :).

This outfit screams 'Americana' at me. I think its mainly to do with the jumper more than anything. I personally am not a lover of bright jumpers. However, I think this jumper is cute and the pockets are a cute addition. I adore the shorts though. Spotty blue shorts, yes please!! They'll be perfect to wear for girly lunch dates or even teamed up with tights if its cooler. I think that's another item I'm adding to my SS wardrobe :)

As a lot of my close friends know, I'm an avid accessory collector. To me, accessories is what completes an outfit and they make all the difference in the world. I couldn't look at Primark's lookbook without having a peek at the upcoming accessories. So here are a couple of my favourites:

I love anything that resembles a satchel. I already own quite a few of them - my favourite being a tan one I got from Topshop about 2.5 years ago. So when I saw that Primark have a version in their upcoming collection, naturally, I got a bit too excited. I love the colour, style....everything. *Add to SS list*

This is my final favourite from the Primark lookbook. It is another item which ticks the boxes for me: it's an envelope bag and its floral - both things which I adore in an item :). I love the colour as well.

Overall, I really like Primark's SS11 collection. As I mentioned before, there is something here for everyone. Whilst some items may not be to your personal taste, there are things which will tickle your 'shopping buds' for definite.

Finally, please visit these lovelies for more views on Primark SS11: BlairLlymlrs and Emma

NB: No-one mention to my dad that the 70's will be back in - I don't want him dusting off his flares anytime soon. Also, does anyone else have problems with blogger? I can't seem to post comments unless the person has a pop-up box - its really annoying me now as so many times I want to post comments but can't :(. Help!

Wednesday Wishes

Item 1 - River Island
Items 2,4 & 5 - New Look
Items 3,6,7,8 & 9 - Topshop

There is quite a lot in this weeks' 'Wednesday Wishes'. It was hard not to keep adding to it :). I was delighted to see River Island have a different version of the brown tapestry bag in (which I may very well buy come Friday!) as I was disappointed when the brown one sold out. The insect necklace is slightly geeky as I did my thesis on beetle trapping :) - oh the joys of running up and down a hill in the pouring wind and rain checking for visitors to my pitfall traps. I love the Topshop bag - I think on the website it's listed as a 'lady bag' which made me chuckle a lot. I'm sure in the last few 'Wednesday wishes' I've featured some sort of snood - perhaps I could ask Santa for one?

Anyone else having problems posting comments on other blogs? I can only post if the person has a pop-up box :(.

Snow thawing:
Woohoo, the snow has started to thaw in Aberdeen, which means 'hello pavements, I can now walk to work again'.

Anyone remember Fame Academy from 2002? It was the one with David Sneddon and Ainslie Henderson....If you do, take a listen of one of Ainslie Henderson's solo tracks. I started listening when I was in uni, and even saw him play in Glasgow, then I forgot about it until today :).

Wednesday Wishes

Apologies for the Monday Summary no-show. I'm not sure what to do with that feature - whether to keep it on or not?Comment me and let me know your thoughts :). I've also started Xmas hours at work this week, which basically means grumpy customers and shattered staff. I've now got a couple of days off work now, so hopefully I'll have time to write some long overdue posts :).

The weather is still horrible here :(. The M8 is unbearable - one of my Mum's colleagues was stranded for 15 hours on it. I saw a picture on BBC news of one motorist that got bored and decided to build a snowman :). Surely the UK would've learnt their lesson from last year? are this week's Wednesday Wishes:

Item 1 - Miss Selfridge
Items 2,3 & 4 - Topshop
Item 5,6 & 7 - New Look

The Friday Five...

Wrapping up Xmas Presents:
I've started wrapping my Xmas pressies as most of my Xmas shopping is done, just a few odds and ends to get for various members of the family. This has nothing to do with the fact that my dad is up North and will be passing by Aberdeen anytime soon....absolutely nothing, nada...

Sainsbury's Oatmeal and Raisin to be precise

Receiving parcels through the post:
As I've done the majority of my shopping online this year,  I've started to receive them through the post which puts a smile on my face. I also had an extremely hot delivery driver that came to my door, hello there!

Image from

I've started cross-stitching again - something which I absolutely adore :). Is it sad that I really want to go to my bed now (at 9.15) to do cross-stitch?

Wishing on a snow day:
Everywhere else seems to have had them but me :(. Work has even had several stores close due to the snow, just not us in Aberdeen :(.

Item 1,2 & 3 - River Island
Items 4&5 - Miss Selfridge

There's not to many Wednesday Wishes this week as nothing really stood out. I'm really liking the Models Own/Wah nails nail art pen though and at £5.99, it's a bit of a bargain :).

Seeing as it's the 1st of December, Xmas songs are officially allowed and so here is one of my favourites:

Shame, that it hardly comes on at work :(. What are your favourite xmas songs?
